Shawano closes out perfect soccer week
With the 2023 soccer season coming to a close, the Shawano Hawks are looking to be at their best in an effort to make some noise in the postseason.
Despite dealing with some injuries in the middle of the season, Shawano never wavered and continued to battle as they are currently sitting at 8-9-1 this season. This was a great week for the Hawks program as they posted a 2-0 record on the pitch and secured a pair of Bay Conference wins in the process.
First was a matchup against the Seymour Thunder at home Oct. 2 and one that was a defensive battle. All it took was one second half goal for the Hawks to emerge victorious as they posted a 1-0 victory over the Thunder.
Warner Beyer continues to be one of the conference leaders in goals as he notched the lone goal in the victory and now has 15 goals on the season to lead Shawano.
The Hawks closed out their conference slate with a dominating 3-1 victory over New London on Oct. 5. With the win, Shawano closes out the regular season with a 4-5 record in conference play.
Pulaski also goes 2-0
Talk about a week that can get the momentum going for the stretch run, the Pulaski soccer team not only posted a perfect 2-0 record this week but posted two dominating wins to improve to 12-5-1 on the season, including 4-3 in conference play.
First on the docket was a matchup with the Sheboygan South Redwings, and this one was over almost as quickly as it started.
Sparked by three goals in the first 15 minutes and five goals in the first half, it was all Pulaski as they dominated Sheboygan South 7-0. Pulaski jumped out to an early three-goal lead in the first 15 minutes as Maddox McKeefry scored two of those three goals while Zach Valeria (Hudson Schultz) added the other one. As the first half went on, it became the Hudson Schultz show as he picked up goals in the 35th and 37th minutes to extend the Red Raiders lead to 5-0.
Pulaski tacked on two second half goals with Valeria adding the first goal in the 43rd minute and Tate Gerth going unassisted in the 73rd minute to close out the score. Roth and Jonah Drevs split time in goal for Pulaski in the shutout.
Pulaski closed out their perfect week with a 6-2 win over Ashwaubenon.
Things started off a bit more interesting with Nolan Pratt opening the scoring for Pulaski in the third minute, followed by an Ashwaubenon goal to tie things up one minute later. After that, it was all Red Raiders as they closed out the first half with three unanswered goals to build up a 4-1 halftime lead. Schultz continued his great week, adding two first half goals ahead of the AJ Schenk goal to close things out to make things 4-1.
Schultz continued to carve up the Ashwaubenon defense, adding a pair of second half goals in the 43rd and 57th minutes to extend the lead to 6-1 as he finished the game with four goals. Ashwaubenon got a late goal from Carter Bona in the 78th minute, but that was it.
Maddox McKeefry and Donovan Holderness each had two assists on the night. Jonah Drevs made four saves in goal for Pulaski.
Gresham/Bowler
Sporting a 1-11 record entering the week and riding a six-game losing streak, now would be a great time for the Gresham/Bowler club to get off the mat as their season is winding down.
Instead, with a pair of games against Tri-County and Newman Catholic, it was more of the same as the losses continued to pile up. When it comes to Tri-County, Gresham/Bowler did have some success finding the back of the net as they scored a season high four goals for the second time this season.
Their biggest issue in this one was allowing eight goals as Gresham/Bowler getting doubled up by Tri-County 8-4. Gresham/Bowler had an additional game against Newman Catholic later in the week, but no results were posted at the time of this story.
