A former Sobieski man is scheduled to be sentenced June 29 for the December 2018 crash that killed 14-year-old September Deneys of Abrams.

After a two-day trial in Oconto County Circuit Court, a jury on April 8 found Cade Wied, 20, now of De Pere, guilty of second-degree reckless homicide, second-degree recklessly endangering safety and two felony counts of operating a motor vehicle while his license was suspended, along with a misdemeanor count of resisting or obstructing an officer.

Judge Michael T. Judge ordered a pre-sentence investigation.

Data recovered from the car indicated Wied was driving down Sampson Road at 88 mph when it went out of control and crashed into two trees around 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14, 2018.

Deneys was killed in the crash. Wied and another passenger, Josh Christiansen of Oconto Falls, then 17, were treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries at area hospitals.

A status conference was scheduled for Thursday, April 15, on more recent charges against Wied, who faces three counts of felony bail jumping after he allegedly violated his bond conditions by getting behind the wheel.

According to the complaint, authorities received a tip that Wied was seen driving an SUV on Dec. 21. A sheriff’s deputy obtained surveillance video of him filling the vehicle with gas, climbing in and driving away. His bail conditions included not driving any vehicle.

Wied has been in custody in lieu of $100,000 cash bond since the latest incident.
