The U.S. flag hangs over Shawano’s North Main Street between the courthouse and fire station in remembrance of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001. Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes, deliberately crashing two of them into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center complex and a third plane into the Pentagon. Passengers on the fourth hijacked plane, Flight 93, fought back, and the plane was crashed into an empty field in Pennsylvania. | Kevin Passon
