Reconstruction underway on Waukechon Street

Waukechon Street in the city of Shawano is closed to through traffic until Oct. 20. The street reconstruction project began Sept. 11.

The closure will be from Green Bay Street to Lieg Avenue. The intersection of Richmond Street will remain open as much as possible to allow traffic to cross to the other side of Richmond. There will be a short period of time that this intersection will need to be closed for paving.

Access will also be given to businesses located on Waukechon Street during the duration of the project. The posted detour will be from East Green Bay Street to Lincoln Street to Lieg Avenue.

This project is being funded with an 80/20 Federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Grant, meaning the federal grant will cover 80% of the costs, and the city must pay for 20% of the costs. The city was awarded $1.3 million toward this project.
