Rachel belonged to professional organizations including the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities Inc. where she traveled the U.S. presenting at conferences. She was midwest region coordinator, organizing conferences and receiving recognition, along with her students, for the programs they created.

She took a position at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to be closer to her family and took early retirement due to her declining health. She developed close friendships with co-workers and students at these universities.
