Pulaski’s DeCleene, Bonduel’s Thompson earn all-state softball honors

Pulaski’s Gabrielle DeCleene and Bonduel’s Hailee Thompson each were named to Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association all-state teams after monster spring seasons.

DeCleene and Thompson were also on all-district teams along with Pulaski’s Morgan Vertz and Olivia Kubiak and Bonduel’s Hailey Thompson.

DeCleene made the all-state large school honorable mention team, which includes all Division 1 teams. She was on the District 2 large school first team.

DeCleene played in 22 games in her senior season, finishing with a .549 batting average. Twenty-four of her 39 total hits went for extra bases, including 11 home runs, and she drove in 37 runs while scoring 36 times.

DeCleene also pitched in four games, earning wins in each contest. She struck out 27 batters over 21 innings and allowed only six earned runs.

Thompson made the all-state small school second team, which includes all Division 4 and 5 teams. Thompson was on the District 2 small school first team.

Thompson led the Bears with a .475 batting average for the season. The sophomore shortstop got on base at a .584 clip after drawing 14 walks.

Thompson tallied 18 extra-base hits among her 28 total hits, including 12 doubles and five homers. She drove in 30 runs and scored 28 times.

Vertz joined DeCleene on the District 2 first team, while Kubiak was an honorable mention.

Vertz was Pulaski’s primary option in the circle this spring. The sophomore earned 13 wins while striking out 137 batters over 116⅓ innings. She had a 1.74 earned run average.

At the plate, Vertz had a .419 average, drove in 16 runs, posted 31 hits and scored 18 runs.

Kubiak caught for the Red Raiders and finished the season with a .408 average. Ten of the senior’s 31 hits went for extra bases. She drove in 20 runs and scored 19 times.

Zernicke was on the District 2 honorable mention list.

Zernicke was primarily Bonduel’s first baseman this spring. The sophomore had a .400 average and .493 on-base percentage to go along with 21 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Zernicke pitched in three games, covering 10 innings and picking up one win.
