Oconto police have asked the public for help in finding a suspect in a Sept. 3 shooting incident near Oconto High School.

Cody John Krueger, 24, of Algoma, is being sought in connection with the incident in which a person was shot at 2008 Superior Ave.

Oconto Police Chief Michael Rehberg said officers were dispatched at 11:24 a.m. and found Nicholas J. Staidl in the driveway with a gunshot wound to the right side of his chest. Oconto Fire and Rescue transported Staidl to a Green Bay hospital, where he remained in stable condition earlier this week.

During the investigation it was determined that Krueger knew a package containing narcotics was to be delivered to that address, and he was waiting at the mailbox when Staidl confronted him and was shot, Rehberg said.

The investigation led officers to a location on Second Street, where 35-year-old Oconto man and a 31-year-old Marinette woman were arrested, but the chief said it was determined they were not directly involved in the shooting.

Online court documents say a Brown County judge issued a bench warrant for Krueger on Aug. 3 after he failed to appear for his arraignment on charges of possession of burglarious tools and misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing an officer and carrying a concealed knife, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred April 9.

Krueger has had several run-ins with the law, beginning in 2017 when he was convicted of armed robbery in Portage County, according to online records.

In their request for the public’s help, officials said Sept. 4 that current information suggests he is most likely in Kewaunee County or Door County and may be driving a silver or gray Honda Accord with self-painted racing stripes.

Officials say he is considered armed and dangerous, and anyone who sees Krueger is asked to call 911 immediately from a safe distance.

A description says Krueger is 6 feet, 4 inches tall, about 200 pounds, and has a variety of tattoos, including swastikas on his abdomen and left knee, a cross on his left calf, a skull on his left calf, barbed wire on his left hand, and “High Life” on his left wrist. Both of his ears are pierced.
