Oconto County fastest-growing in Northeast Wisconsin
Oconto County is the fastest-growing county in Northeast Wisconsin, according to an analysis in the 2024 Business News Book of Lists.
The northern Oconto County Town of Doty recorded the most building permits for new one- and two-family dwellings amoung the 12 Northeast Wisconsin counties, with a total of 135 permits.
The data is derived from the Wisconsin Department of Administration and the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services, respectively. The other counties considered part of Northeast Wisconsin are Brown, Calumet, Door, Fond du Lac, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Marinette, Outagamie, Shawano, Sheboygan, and Winnebago.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Administration, Oconto County is projected to experience a significant population increase of 14.56%.
Jayme Sellen, executive director of the Tourism and Economic Development Corporation for the Oconto Region (TEDCOR), said the surge in population and construction further solidifies Oconto County’s position as a thriving region with a promising future.
“We are thrilled to see Oconto County in the spotlight,” Sellen said. “Being named the fastest-growing county and seeing the development in the Town of Doty is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our communities. We are committed to continuing this momentum and showcasing the wide array of experiences that Oconto County has to offer.”
Sellen said the county is a great place to start a business and establish a home, or for visitors, to enjoy the outdoors or find a peaceful retreat.
