Marva Mae Wege

Marva Mae Wege, 84, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, in Shawano. Marva was born in Shawano on May 14, 1938, to the late Marvin and Mabel (Zeuske) Knope. In 1956, Marva graduated from Shawano High School. On July 1, 1978, she was united in marriage to Curtis Berglin who preceded her in death in 1990. Marva worked for the Shawano County government for 26 years, with her last 10 years serving as a Registrar of Deeds until her retirement in 2005.

On Jan. 21, 2006, she was united in marriage to Donald K. Wege at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano, where she was a member. Marva enjoyed singing in the church choir and formerly served as treasurer for the church. Marva and Don spent several years as snowbirds wintering in Green Valley, Arizona.

She was a strong-willed and caring woman who believed in giving back to her community. As such, she served in several different offices throughout the years with the Shawano Lions Club. Marva loved her family with all her heart and cherished the memories of the many family trips to Wisconsin Dells. She and Don also enjoyed coffee clutching at the Farm Inn on Main with friends for many years.

Marva is survived by her husband, Don; two daughters, Nancy (Richard) Charron and Vicky Brennan; numerous grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and her brother, Wallace (Joan) Knope. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Marva was preceded in death by a husband, Curtis; her parents; children, Kathy Bartelt and Mike “Battles” Bartelt; and a grandson, Hunter Brennan.

A funeral service will be held at noon Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with Pastor Andrew Zobel officiating. Visitation will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and again at the church on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery following the service.
