Marion High School's Sam Gueths qualified for sectionals as an individual after turning in a strong round at the Division 3 Marathon Regional on May 23 at Pine Valley Golf Course in Marathon City.

Gueths tallied a round of 96, which tied him for 13th place as an individual. That round was tied with three other golfers for the second-best individual score outside of the top-four teams, so Gueths punched a spot at sectionals.

“For me, making sectionals means a lot. I have been chasing this since my freshman year when I missed qualifying by three strokes,” said Gueths. “Finally making it proves that the hard work and my commitment to golf is paying off.”

Gueths will next compete at the Crivitz Sectional on May 30 at Hunter's Glen Golf Club in Crivitz. Golfers will open play at 9 a.m.

Edward Schoen (110), Gracie Grogan (123), Owen Spiegel (131) and Cameron Buss (133) rounded out Marion's five-golfer team.

Marion placed ninth as a team with a score of 460. St. Mary Catholic (343), Newman Catholic (344), Marathon (382) and Manawa (400) advanced to sectionals as teams.
