Longtime firefighter, assistant chief laid to rest

A large American flag hangs from a Shawano Fire Department ladder truck outside St. James Lutheran Church on May 27, during the funeral for former Assistant Fire Chief Larry Gehm, who died May 22 at age 69.

Gehm served with Bonduel and Shawano fire departments for over 33 years, and served as the Shawano assistant fire chief for 20 years. He also served on the Shawano Police and Fire Commission and was director of lay ministry at St. James church.
