LETTER: Meeting unlawful due to lack of quorum

To the editor:

Change is needed for the Town of Little Suamico.

I attended the plan commission regular meeting on April 7. After all nine items were discussed and the meeting adjourned, Beth Trudell informed Chairman Elmer Ragen he did not have a quorum, and it fell on deaf ears.

I called Ragen the following day to inform him he did not have a quorum and the meeting was invalid. Ragen, with over 23 years working for our town and is on the Oconto County Board and many committees, Keith Helmle and Ray Palonen were present at the planning meeting, and all said nothing about not having a quorum. They all violated their oath of office. This meeting should never have been held.

The April meeting had to be rescheduled with May’s meeting. This cost the Town of Little Suamico and also time and money for others on April’s planning meeting agenda, as it was now invalid and had to be redone. Again, with all the years of experience Ragen has he should have known and cancelled this meeting because of not having a quorum.

We need term limits now more than ever because of incompetency of holding a meeting without a quorum and/or possibly holding the meeting on purpose in hopes of not being caught.

Little Suamico is the largest town in Oconto County, and we need leadership who follows statutes and rules or hire an administrator who truly knows how to run meetings and our town.
