LETTER: Mandate necessary, despite parents’ objections

To the editor:

Recently, I read the Leader’s coverage of a school meeting held at the end of September. At this meeting, several parents voiced strong opposition to the mandated use of masks through the end of October. One of the parents actually claimed that he had talked with our sheriff and mayor and claimed that both indicated that he had the right to contest this mandate legally.

Now, if the officials merely indicated that the right to sue exists, so be it. If they encouraged him to do so, shame on them.

The facts are that, due to spikes in COVID-19 cases, the board’s decision was made for the overall health of the community. We constantly hear from whining parents that their freedom is being taken away. My point, is that you are not free to jeopardize my health because of your ignorance. Also, folks that voice these specious objections to mandates are also the folks that are led around like docile sheep by the toxic statements and actions of our former president and his minions.

People who want to jeopardize the health of others in the name of freedom, do exercise the following freedom: Keep your children home.
