Lena/STAA boys, Suring girls track and field teams take 1st at Suring Invite

The Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy boys and Suring girls track and field teams placed first at the Suring Invite April 27 in Suring.

The Lena/STAA boys earned 108 points, edging Bonduel (106). The Suring girls scored 133.5 points, just ahead of Bonduel (129) and Gillett (121).

Leading the Lena/STAA boys with first-place finishes were Sam Marquardt in the 100-meter dash (12.51 seconds) and long jump (17 feet, 8 inches) and Sidney Sylvester in the triple jump (34-2). The 4x800 relay team of Norman Aguilar, Max Beyer, Reed Hosking and Miles Maloney also came in first in 10:20.37, as did the 4x100 relay quartet of Ayden DeCoursin, Braeden Neta, Jadyn Belongia and Jacob Belongia with a time of 51.79.

Guiding the Suring girls to first was Olivia Noack and Christine Sleeter. Noack won the 800 (2:50.84), while Sleeter claimed the top marks in the high jump (4-6) and pole vault (7-6).

Earning first-place finishes for the Bonduel boys was Gavin Vance in the 200 (25.64), Jon Sell in discus (115-0) and the 4x200 relay team of Trevor Kraning, Kaden Bergsbaken, Parker Perry and Vance (1:48.13).

Bonduel's Brenna Hertzfeldt had the top throw in the girls shot put (35-2.25).

The Bonduel girls team also got first-place finishes from its 4x200 relay team of Hertzfeldt, Madison Kurey, Ava Pleshek and Meghan Wondra in 2:08.06, the 4x400 relay team of Kalleigh Schroeder, Breanna Schnell, Kara Troxel and Ashlyn Kurey in 4:33.19 and the 4x800 relay quartet of Schnell, Kendra Troxel, Ashlyn Kurey and Kara Troxel in 11:10.16.

Gillett's boys team had four top finishes, including Connor Hanson in the 800 (2:10.51), Derek Hanson in the 1,600 (4:45.2) and Evan Peterson in the 3,200 (11:02.75). Both Hansons joined Ben Matczak and Alex Peterson on the top-finishing 4x400 relay team (3:49.95).

Gillett's Aubrey DeBauch won the girls 100 and 300 hurdle events with times of 17.65 and 50.27, respectively. Also placing first for the Gillett girls was Sylvia Hansen in the 1,600 (5:42.34), Carleigh Kaczmarek in the 3,200 (13:26.95) and Karissa Schaal in discus (93-10).

For the Lena/STAA girls team, Kennedy Marquardt led the way with top finishes in the 200 (28.65) and 400 (1:04.39). Ruth Alberts, Alabama Lambert, Claire Brooks and Emily Peters teamed up for first in the 4x100 relay (59.7).

Leo Taylor had the Suring boys lone first-place finish, winning the shot put with a top throw of 38-2.
