A jury trial has been scheduled to start Jan. 6, 2023, for the woman accused of shooting an Oconto Falls police officer last August.

Alisha M. Kocken, 29, was charged with six felony counts, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide, and three misdemeanor counts, after she allegedly shot and wounded Officer Nicole Blaskowski.
Kocken appeared May 6 in Oconto County Circuit Court, where Judge Michael T. Judge reviewed a psychologist’s report that concluded Kocken could not claim to be not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.

Blaskowski was called to 140 Elm Ave. at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 6 after a woman called 911 to report her child was being kidnapped, then hung up.

According to the complaint, Kocken’s boyfriend told the officer he had taken the child to a nearby park and Kocken had come to the park and accused him of kidnapping the child. The woman then came out of the apartment and eventually grappled with Blaskowski, and during the struggle she was able to pull out the officer’s handgun, firing three shots.

One bullet apparently struck the officer’s ballistic vest, a second bullet went through a wall into a closet, and the third struck the officer above the right eye, causing a laceration at the hairline, according to the complaint.

Kocken was examined at Winnebago Mental Health Institute for several weeks and is currently being held in the Oconto County Jail awaiting trial. Judge reserved Jan. 6, a Friday, for jury selection with the trial to be held Jan. 9-11. A final pre-trial conference was set for Dec. 5.
