Hawks wrap Bay tennis season with solid showing

The Shawano Community High School girls tennis team wrapped up Bay Conference action on Sept. 27, competing in the conference tournament in De Pere and Ashwaubenon. The Hawks took fourth at the tournament and fourth for the entire conference season.

Rachael Carroll earned Shawano’s top finish on the day, placing third in the No. 4 singles bracket. She earned a 6-2, 6-3 win to start her day, fell 6-2, 6-3 in her second match and ended her day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Jenna Ainsworth (No. 1) and Adison Moesch (No. 2) earned fourth-place finishes for the Hawks in singles play.

Ainsworth won 6-1, 6-0 to begin her day before 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-0 losses. Moesch won 6-1, 6-2 in her first match before 6-0, 6-2 and 7-6 (3), 6-0 losses.

Ireland Setterman played at No. 3 singles for Shawano, claiming fifth place. She lost 3-6, 6-0, 11-9 to start the day but had 6-1, 6-0 and 6-4, 6-0 wins to finish things off on a positive note.

Shawano’s Anna Etten and Samantha Martzke took fourth place at No. 1 doubles. They won 7-6 (4), 6-2 in their first match before 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2 losses.

Ava Huntington and Ariana Albert also came in fourth, doing so at No. 3 doubles. They won 6-2, 6-4 to open their day before 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-3 losses.

Rachael Cooper and Natalee Jung came in fifth at No. 2 doubles. They lost their first match 6-4, 6-1 and then had a bye before winning 6-3, 6-4.
