Gladys Paiser

Gladys Adeline Pevonka Paiser, 88, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, formerly of Leopolis, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 13, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Paiser; her beloved sisters Joyce Burr, Myrtle Worm, Elizabeth Bartz; and brother, Ernest Pevonka.

She is survived by her children, Debra Brigman, Cheryl Gilliam (Keith), Susan Hartell (Robert), Patrick Paiser (Deborah), Michael Paiser (Susie) and Cathryn Judy (Michael); grandchildren, Shaun Craft, Jennifer Dunn, Philip Foster, Robert Paiser, Jonathan Paiser, Nicholas Vincett, Matthew Vincett, Christoph Thompson, Marcus Daw, Shirley, Katie and Michael Judy; several great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Gladys attended both Shawano and Gresham high schools and then went on to graduate from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Wisconsin in 1954. She was a dedicated and devoted nurse and began her career as a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital.While stationed in Bamburg, Germany, with her husband, she spent her time as a school nurse. After several duty assignments, which included two tours in Germany, her husband was sent to Fort Bragg.

Gladys began working at Womack Army Hospital and treasured her career as an ICU nurse on Ward 7A for over 35 years. While there, she cared for many members of their military family and also worked part-time at High-Smith Rainy Hospital.

Gladys loved to play card games, especially with her grandchildren, and was a regular Scrabble player on Tuesday mornings at Barnes and Noble for many years. She was a lifelong Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves baseball fan and loved to pick fresh English peas and strawberries.

Gladys was an adventurer, always ready for a road trip, near or far, and completed her first tandem sky dive with her son Michael at 63 years young. Gladys was a devoted church member and faithfully attended Catholic Mass and Holy Days of Obligation at Main Post Chapel and JFK Chapels at Fort Bragg for over 56 years. Above everything, Gladys was a wonderful, loving and generous mother and great provider for her family.

Funeral services honoring the life of Gladys will be held Monday, June 21, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Adcock Funeral Home, 2226 Lillington Highway, Spring Lake, North Carolina, with interment immediately following at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Bragg. There will be a visitation for friends and family at the funeral home one hour prior to the service beginning at 9 a.m.
