CLUB NOTES: Delta Kappa Gamma, Nu Chapter

Nu Chapter held its May meeting at Shawano Area Matthew 25 in Shawano. Chris Ciucci, the resource center manager, explained the nonprofit’s goals and services. SAM25 helps those affected by poverty improve their circumstances to become self-sufficient. SAM25 strives to make sure everyone in the Shawano area has a meal and a safe place to sleep every night and has access to medical care they can afford. They raise awareness of community resources for those affected by poverty.

The shelter is open from Nov. 1 to April 30 each year. This year, 1,925 beds and 5,775 meals were offered. The facility was not used to capacity due to the pandemic. The goal is to make sure clients have a safe place to live in the community.

Another service is the resource center, which offers computers, phones, community services and employment help, and 2,019 people used these services during the last 10 months. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Open Thursdays from 4-8 p.m., the SAM25 Community Health Clinic provides free basic health care and health education to area residents who do not have health insurance and are living near or below the federal poverty level.

The Sam’s Thrift Store and Professional Clothes Closet opened last April and is open to the public on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The chapter and individual members donated $358.60 in cash, stamps, gas cards, Aldi and Charlie’s Market gift cards to SAM25.
