Fire destroyed a car but Oconto firefighters were able to save adjacent buildings April 10.

According to a news release from Capt. Travis Cain, the Oconto Fire Rescue Department was dispatched to 116 Call Ave., Oconto, at 10:25 p.m., initially for the report of a structure fire. En route crews were informed the incident was actually a vehicle fire. The vehicle was reported to be fully involved next to a garage and between two houses. It was reported the occupants were out of the house and car and everyone was OK.

First-arriving crews found an unoccupied vehicle with the front bumper very close to the smaller garage, and the car was completely engulfed in flames. The car fire was knocked down and firefighters prevented any spread to the buildings.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. The vehicle involved, a 2001 Toyota Echo, is considered a total loss. There were no reported injuries to any civilians or firefighters.

Cain said two fire engines, one ladder truck, one command truck, one rescue truck and one ambulance along with approximately 15 Oconto Fire Rescue firefighters responded, as did two Oconto Police Department officers who helped with traffic control. The officers also assisted on initial hose deployment.
