Two charges have been filed against Evan J. Fox, 19, Bowler, in relation to an incident that allegedly occurred Sept. 17 in the Town of Red Springs.

Fox faces one count of aggravated battery and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. If convicted, Fox faces up to $50,000 in fines and 15 years in prison for the aggravated battery charge and fines up to $1,000 and 90 days in jail for disorderly conduct.

According to the criminal complaint, a Stockbridge-Munsee police officer was dispatched to a reported assault on Big Lake Road in Gresham. The officer was reportedly told that a man on the ground had been hit and was bleeding from the nose and mouth, with a group of people surrounding him. The victim’s eyes were reported to be bruised and swollen shut and his nose was allegedly swollen and crooked, with a 1-inch gash on its bridge.

A witness told the reporting officer that two men were seen running away from the scene. The witness further said they heard that Evan Fox was the name of one of the men who were running away.

According to another witness, they described the relationship between Fox and the victim as a brother-like relationship, because the two are allegedly close. Fox and the victim were walking a friend back to a campsite, when Fox allegedly turned and punched the victim in the face at least three times and then reportedly hit the victim with the glass beer bottle.

In an interview with Fox on Sept. 18, Fox explained that he and the victim were feuding for a while. He explained that the victim and the victim’s brother were allegedly talking disparagingly through the night to Fox. Fox said that he got kicked out of The Thirsty Whale and, while leaving, he allegedly checked shoulders with the victim, which led to Fox punching the victim.

The police officer reported that Fox had cuts on his knuckles and that his right hand appeared to be more swollen than his left hand.

Shawano-Menominee County Circuit Court Judge Katherine Sloma set a cash bond of $20,000 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Sept. 29.
