The Bonduel High School boys golf team secured the Central Wisconsin Conference title with a first-place finish during a meet May 16 at Golden Sands Golf Course in Shawano.

Bonduel turned in a team score of 357 at the final meet, with Wittenberg-Birnamwood in second with a mark of 368. Marion posted a score of 421 to take seventh, while Menominee Indian/Gresham took 10th with a mark of 450.

For the season, Bonduel had a score of 1,472, with Witt-Birn in second with a 1,527. Marion was eighth with a mark of 1,803, and Menominee Indian/Gresham claimed 10th with a total score of 1,841.

“First off, it’s huge for me and my team, especially coach (Dave) LaBerge,” said Bonduel golfer Cooper Uelmen. “Me and the team have been practicing hard over the past months, and it’s extremely rewarding to be the first team in 10 years and only the third team in program history to achieve the feat of conference champions. It was also nice to help coach LaBerge get his first team championship in. The amount of work he does for the team is incredible, and he’s a huge reason our team was able to grow into what it is today.”

Uelmen led Bonduel with an 18-hole round of 79 at Golden Sands to finish as the medalist. He also was the top individual golfer for the season.

“Earning Player of the Year has been probably the best moment of my entire high school career,” said Uelmen. “The time and effort I put into learning everything about the game finally paid off. It wasn’t all me, I had a lot of help getting to where I am now. For starters, the biggest influence on me would have to be my boss, Jim Acker. His hours of lessons improved my game more than I ever could have done by myself.

“Secondly, my parents driving me everywhere before I was able to get my license. They always called me crazy when I got them up early to go golfing or wanted to buy new clubs, but they always supported me. Finally, I’d like to thank my team for always being there, they certainly made golf a lot more enjoyable, and I’m hoping we can build off our conference success with a solid run into the playoffs. Everything about this year has been memorable, and I’m hoping we can end it out with a bang.”

Bonduel’s Colin Margelofsky fired a round of 90, while Jake Dreyer shot a 91. Reece Stoltenow’s 97 and Reed Luepke’s 102 rounded out the team’s lineup.

Dreyer was the conference’s fifth-best golfer for the season, with Luepke in 12th and Stoltenow 13th.

Witt-Birn’s Calvin Scheurer tied for second place at the final meet with a round of 83. He placed second as an individual for the full season.

“It’s quite crazy to think that our team could still get second place after losing the heart of our team last year, but I was definitely pleased with the way I was able to pull my weight and help out the team,” said Scheurer.

Witt-Birn’s Nolan Fraaza came in sixth for the conference season, and shot an 89 at the last meet. Joey Seegmiller took 15th overall and carded a 103 at Golden Sands.

Dylan Resch turned in a round of 93 in the final meet and was 16th for the full season. Owen Schultz had a round of 104 to cap the team’s lineup. Marion’s Isaiah Gueths led the team at Golden Sands with a round of 100. Sam Gueths and Quinn Tolan weren’t far behind, with scores of 103 and 104, respectively.

Kasey Roethle’s 114 and Owen Speigel’s 126 capped the Mustangs’ five-golfer team.

Isaiah Gueths was Marion’s top finisher for the season, taking 18th.

Corbin Welch paced the Menominee Indian/Gresham co-op this spring, finishing 11th overall. He shot an 88 at Golden Sands.

Dugan Webster fired a round of 100 for the co-op. Fynn Bennett (113) and Trentyn Harrison (149) rounded out the four-golfer lineup.
