The Bonduel and Lena boys golf teams each qualified for sectionals after putting together strong days at the Bonduel Regional on June 1 at Golden Sands Golf Course in Cecil.

Bonduel and Oconto tied for the best team score with marks of 361, but Oconto won a tiebreaker to claim the top spot at the regional.

Lena and St. Thomas Aquinas Academy tied for third place with marks of 412.

Marion placed fifth as a team with a score of 432, but had Isaiah Gueths advance to sectionals as an individual.

Bonduel’s Cooper Uelmen tied for the top individual round of the day after carding a 79.

Reed Luepke (91), Mason Moore (95), Jake Dreyer (96) and Sam Wolf (117) were Bonduel’s other four golfers.

“To me every golfer one to five stepped up their game and shot really well and that helped us shoot our season best,” said Luepke.

“It means a lot to make sectionals this year because we are all young, and being that none of us are seniors and three of us are freshman, we gained a lot of experience this year that will help us going forward.”

Braden McVane and Mason Simonson led Lena with rounds of 96 and 98, respectively.

Evan VanderZanden fired a 107 and K.C. Miller a 111 to cap the Lena team score.

“I think the reason that our team did well today is because we all had faith in each other, we all knew that our teammates would be there for us however we played,” said McVane.

“I think it means a lot for our team to be going to sectionals because we all worked so hard this year to get to this point. I mean the past 2½ months we all have been going out almost every day and practicing.”

Gueths fired a round of 102 to earn his sectional spot as an individual. The top four golfers not on one of the sectional-qualifying teams advanced.

“I felt like I was playing good golf on the front nine but coasted to do just well enough on the back nine,” said Gueths.

“I am excited to continue on in sectionals and play another week of golf. I wish I could be golfing with the Marion golf team but I am honored to represent Marion in sectionals.”

Marion’s Ellen Radies (106) and Sam Gueths (108) just missed out on qualifying for sectionals. Kasey Roethle (116) and Quinn Tolan (117) filled out the five-golfer team.

The Bonduel and Lena teams, along with Gueths will prepare for the Crivitz Sectional, which will be held June 8, starting at 9 a.m.
