The Bonduel High School girls track and field team earned a first-place finish at the May 20 Bonduel Invitational in Bonduel. The Bonduel boys claimed second.

The Bonduel girls accumulated 171.5 points, with Weyauwega-Fremont (110.5) coming in second. Wittenberg-Birnamwood (89) took third, Menominee Indian (49) sixth, Tigerton (26) seventh and Marion (3) eighth.

The Bonduel boys racked up 140 points, behind Amherst (166). Witt-Birn (52) took fifth, with Menominee Indian (14) in sixth.

Bonduel’s girls team earned five first-place finishes on the afternoon.

Kara Troxel won the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 11 inches. Ashlyn Kurey was the top finisher in the triple jump (31-8.5), and Brenna Hertzfeldt posted the top mark in the discus (111-2).

Kendra Troxel, Breanna Schnell, Kurey and Kara Troxel teamed up to take first in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 10 minutes, 37.07 seconds. The same quartet placed first in the 4x400 relay in 4:29.56.

“I thought that I performed pretty well for the conditions at the meet,” said Kara Troxel, who also competed in the 800, placing second in 2:32.99. “It was pretty hot out, but I still managed to PR (personal record) in the 800 and out-sprint a girl at the end to claim second place.

“In the two relays, it was kind of hard to push myself to go faster since there wasn’t anyone running right next to me, but in my eyes I still ran a good time. Long jump also went pretty good for me, too. Although I didn’t meet my goal of 15 (feet), I will still keep practicing so that 15 will be my smallest jump.”

The Bonduel boys top finishes all came from individuals.

Jon Sell won the discus (124-3.5) and shot put (40-0.75) to lead the Bears. Kaden Bergsbaken was the top finisher in the 300 hurdles (46.13).

Karter Schroeder won the boys high jump after clearing 5-6.

“This year I’ve been focusing on high jump because that’s where I excel,” said Schroeder. “I’ve been consistently getting 5-6, and I’m so close to getting 5-8 and 5-10. All these top finishes give me hope for conference and sectionals.”

Along with its nine total first-place finishes, the boys and girls teams earned 14 second-place finishes.

Reese Rogowski won the 100 (12.89) and 200 (26.13) dashes to lead the Witt-Birn girls.

“I felt like I got out of the blocks strong and kept a good stride throughout both events,” said Rogowski, who keeps herself motivated after claiming top finish after top finish by always trying to achieve personal records.

Jalynn Horacek won the 100 hurdles (18.03), while Allison Linke claimed the top time in the 300 hurdles (52.55) for the Chargers.

Simon Schairer was involved with both of the first-place finishes for the Witt-Birn boys team.

Schairer won the 800 (2:06.25) and was on the top-finishing 4x400 relay team (3:56.29). Tommy Bruski, Trevor Schmidt and Craig Wendel filled out the relay team.

“I was able to get a first-place finish in the 800 because I had a good finish at the end and was able to sprint the last 100,” said Schairer. “And as a team we were able to win the 4x4 by all of us running hard and running under a minute.

“The top finishes help motivate me to try to get even faster for when we have our upcoming meets and gives me more confidence in upcoming meets.”

The Witt-Birn girls earned three second-place finishes, while the boys tallied two.

The Menominee Indian girls were led by the second-place finishes of Emma Komanekin and Guadalupe Cruz.

Komanekin was second in the 1,600 (5:54.45), while Cruz earned second in the shot put (37-2).

“I think I did fairly good on my individual events,” said Komanekin, who was also third in the long jump. “Every meet my mile time decreases, and that is what I want. As my mile time decreases I get more confidence about the regional meet.”

Asenex Turney had the best individual finishes for the Menominee Indian boys. He placed third in the shot put (34-5) and fourth in shot put (102-5.5).

Tigerton’s top finish came from Mary Kreklow, who was the lone competitor in the 3,200 (16:02.98). Elizabeth Robbins claimed fourth in the 100 (13.84) and 200 (28.99).

Marion’s Haiyle Larson placed sixth in the triple jump (23-8.75) for the team’s top finish.
