Bears, Panthers each go 4-1 at volleyball invite

Algoma Invite

Bonduel went 4-1 on the day at the Algoma Invite.

They dropped the first match against Valley Christian 2-1. Set scores were 17-25, 25-13 and 11-15.

Bonduel went on to defeat Division 4 ranked Pacelli 2-1. Set scores were 25-13, 18-25 and 15-10.

Bonduel then beat Shiocton, Algoma and Two Rivers, all in two sets. Set scores for Shiocton were 25-15 and 25-12. Algoma scores were 25-14 and 25-12. Bonduel defeated Two Rivers in the last match with set scores of 25-16 and 25-16.

Audrey Weier went over 1,000 career kills in the match against Two Rivers.

Weier led the team in kills for the day with 35 and also had 31 digs and seven service aces. Tatum Sporisky led the team in digs and aces with 39 and 12, respectively. Juliana Jacobs chipped in 25 kills. Josie Anvelink had 18 kills and 28 digs. Paige Niquette led in assists with 63.

Westfield Invite

In the first round of pool play, Gillett beat Westfield and lost to New Lisbon. In the second round of pool play, Gillett lost to Laona/Wabeno and Royall.

West De Pere Invite

Oconto Falls went 4-1 to take second at the West De Pere Tournament.

Oconto Falls had a solid morning going 3-0 in pool play.

In the first round of the Gold Bracket, Oconto Falls showed a lot of resiliency against Winneconne. Lucy Ripley stepped it up when the Panthers lost Amber Otto due to illness. Rhiana Vandeyacht filled in for her and had some key kills that helped propel the Panthers past Winneconne.

“Winneconne was a huge win for us as they are in our sectional and have been listed as honorable mention in the Wisconsin Coaches State Rankings,” coach Rochell Otto said. “In the championship game, West De Pere served aggressively and had us out of system most of the match. They played well.”

In pool play, Oconto Falls beat Sheboygan Falls 25-14, 25-23, Marinette 25-14, 25-9, and Oconto 25-12, 25-20.

In the Gold Bracket, the Panthers beat Winneconne 25-21, 23-25, 15-13 but lost to West De Pere in the title game, 16-25, 24-26.

For the day, Izzy Otto had 101 assists, eight aces and 30 digs. Ripley had 58 kills, and Amber Otto had 30 kills.

Katelyn Kurek had 11 kills and 21 digs, and Vandeyacht had 10 kills. Rylie Shallow had 45 digs and six aces, while Hailyn St. Louis had 26 digs and 10 aces.
