Tigerton senior enjoys final season on baseball field

The Tigerton High School baseball team put together a solid spring season, earning several wins and remaining competitive in just about every contest. Senior Mitch Zimdars was a big part of the success with his play at the plate and on the mound.

In a loss to Bowler on June 3, Zimdars led Tigerton at the plate with two hits. He also pitched four innings, allowing just one run.

Zimdars also tallied two hits in the team’s Central Wisconsin Conference-North Division win over Northland Lutheran/Wisconsin Valley Lutheran on May 17.

The senior twirled a gem to help Tigerton to a 2-1 win over Gresham back on May 20. He pitched all seven innings, striking out 14 batters along the way.

Zimdars scored four runs and drove in three more in the team’s win over Gresham on April 29. He also pitched a scoreless inning in the victory.

In the team’s season-opening loss to Northland Lutheran/Wisconsin Valley Lutheran on April 27, Zimdars reached base four times, including three walks.

Q: When did your interest in baseball begin?

A: My first interest in baseball started when I was young and playing T-ball.

Q: What is your favorite part about the baseball season?

A: My favorite part of the season is spending quality time with my buddies.

Q: What is your favorite baseball position to play, and why?

A: I like playing shortstop, center and pitcher because I love the amount of action those positions get.

Q: After having your junior season erased by the pandemic, how did you remain positive and ready for your senior season?

A: It sucked at first, but after awhile I started to realize being negative about it is only going to make things worse. (I) saw that as an opportunity to practice and work to get better for my senior season

Q: You’ve enjoyed a big senior season. To what would you attribute your success?

A: My team without a doubt. My teammates are always there to make plays if I’m going through a rough patch or not playing well.

Q: Athletes typically remember their senior seasons when thinking back on their high school careers. What about this year’s team are you going to remember when looking back on it?

A: Our ability to pick each other up when someone makes a bad play or messes up. We’re always positive and focused on the task at hand.

Q: Do you have any rituals you go through before a game starts?

A: I like to sit in my car and listen to music so I can focus up.

Q: What’s your favorite memory of competing on the Tigerton baseball team?

A: Not anything specific, but all of the close games we’ve played. Win or lose, close ball games are always a blast.

Q: Favorite movie and musical artist?

A: Movie – “Space Jam” for sure. Musical artist – Fergie.

Q: Name one thing about yourself that not many people know.

A: I’m ambidextrous.

Q: What’s the greatest piece of advice you have ever been told?

A: Cherish every single moment you have in high school sports. I didn’t think much of it at first, but it really does goes by fast.

Q: What are some things you hope to accomplish in the coming years?

A: Graduate college and start my own contracting business.
