Athlete Profile: Kaysha Wilber

Eagles’ senior helps in every aspect on court

The Menominee Indian High School girls basketball team already has earned more wins in Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division play than it did a season ago. Senior Kaysha Wilber is a big part of the team’s improvement.

Wilber is averaging double digits as a scorer this winter.

She opened up the season by scoring in double figures in the first four games. Wilber had 18 points in a season-opening game against Oconto and then tallied 17 in a contest against Oconto Falls.

The senior has scored in double digits in six games since then, with a 21-point showing against Amherst and 31-point performance against Weyauwega-Fremont.

She’s hit multiple 3-pointers in a game on seven occasions, with four triples against Amherst and Weyauwega-Fremont.

The senior also leads the team in rebounds per contest. Wilber had a season-high 13 boards against Marion and followed that up with 12 rebounds against Crandon and 11 more against Wabeno/Laona.

Wilber has the most steals on the team and is second in assists.

The senior had eight steals against Marion and seven against Weyauwega-Fremont. Her top assist game with a five-assist performance against Pacelli early in the season.

Q: When did your interest in basketball begin?

A: Elementary school.

Q: What has the game of basketball taught you over the years?

A: Keep working hard to be better

Q: What is your favorite thing to do on the basketball court?

A: Euro.

Q: Do you have any individual goals you hope to accomplish by the end of the season, and how do you plan on achieving those goals?

A: I want to start taking more mid-range shots. Getting to the gym and putting up those shots will help me achieve that goal.

Q: Heading into the latter half of the season, what are some areas in which the team wants to improve in?

A: We want to improve on boxing out.

Q: Your team is in the thick of the CWC-East title hunt after finishing near the bottom of the conference a season ago. What’s changed for the team this season to have that improvement in conference play?

A: We work hard at practices. We watch film and study on the teams we are playing.

Q: Before a game starts, do you or the team have any routines or rituals you go through?

A: No.

Q: What’s your favorite memory of competing on the Menominee Indian girls basketball team?

A: Beating the teams that always blew us out.

Q: Favorite movie and TV show?

A: Movie — “Shrek.” TV show — Greys Anatomy.”

Q:What are some things you hope to accomplish after graduating high school?

A: I want to go to college for nursing.
