Area baseball squads learn playoff seeds
Area high school baseball teams now know their first playoff opponents after the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association released brackets.
Pulaski is a No. 8 seed in Division 1 and will open the postseason by hosting No. 9 Appleton East on May 30. The winning team will get No. 1 Kimberly on June 1 in Kimberly.
Shawano and Oconto Falls are both playing in Division 2.
Shawano earned a No. 6 seed and will host No. 11 Sturgeon Bay to open the postseason on May 25. If Shawano wins, it would head to No. 3 Little Chute on May 30.
Oconto Falls is the No. 12 seed and will head to No. 5 Wrightstown to open the postseason on May 25. If the Panthers win, they would either host No. 13 Marinette or travel to No. 4 Clintonville in the next round on May 30.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood, Bonduel, Gillett/Suring and Menominee Indian all play in Division 3.
Witt-Birn is a No. 4 seed and hosts No. 13 Gillett/Suring on May 25 in Wittenberg. Bonduel received the No. 5 seed and will host Manawa on May 25.
The winners of each of those games will then face each other May 30.
Menominee Indian is a No. 14 seed and will open the playoffs at No. 3 Amherst on May 25. If the Eagles pull off the upset, they would next travel to No. 6 Crivitz or No. 11 Peshtigo.
The remaining area teams play in Division 4 brackets.
Marion got one of the No. 1 seeds and has a bye. The Mustangs will play the winner of the No. 9 Tigerton and No. 7 Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Providence game on May 30 in Marion.
Tigerton will head to Green Bay for its game against the co-op on May 25.
Lena is the No. 7 seed at the bottom of Marion’s bracket. The Wildcats will open the postseason by hosting No. 10 Wild Rose on May 25, with the winner heading to No. 2 Pacelli on May 30.
Bowler is a No. 7 seed in another D4 regional pod. The Panthers host No. 10 Newman Catholic on May 25 to open postseason play, and the winning team will travel to No. 2 Niagara on May 30.
Gresham is a No. 11 seed and will start postseason play at No. 6 Wausaukee on May 25. If Gresham pulls the upset, it would either head to No. 3 Florence or host No. 14 White Lake in the next round on May 30.
