PEAK Genetics in Shawano is a new member of the American Angus Association, according to Mark McCully, CEO of the national breed organization headquartered in St. Joseph, Missouri.

The American Angus Association, with more than 25,000 adult and junior members, is the largest beef breed association in the world. Its computerized records include detailed information on more than 19 million registered Angus.

CoVantage Credit Union eliminates overdraft fees

CoVantage Credit Union will no longer charge overdrafts fees of any kind.

CoVantage Credit Union announce Nov. 1 that it has eliminated all overdraft fees, non-sufficient fund fees, courtesy pay fees and automatic savings transfer fees on their members’ checking accounts. Previously, members whose checking account balance became negative would be charged between $2 and $25 per occurrence depending on the type of transaction that caused the account to be overdrawn.

Shoe repair business comes to Cecil

Although the building at 206 N. Lemke St. in Cecil shows the former Main Event Banquet Hall logo, it has a new focus as The Main Event Venue, which now houses City Shoe Repair and More.

Jeff and Elsie Moser purchased the building in May 2021 and remodeled the front section to house their business. Although new to Cecil, City Shoe Repair and More has been in business since 2011, located in Sheboygan.

Culver’s gets DWD Exemplary Employer Award

Culver’s Restaurant in Shawano was presented Oct. 20 with an Exemplary Employer Award by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) for its strong commitment to recruiting and hiring job seekers with disabilities.

The Exemplary Employer Award highlights businesses that recruit and hire people with disabilities and helps to encourage other businesses to provide opportunities for this skilled, dedicated and capable workforce.

Staff of Life in Shawano under new ownership

The Staff of Life store, a place for people to find health food and Christian gifts, is continuing to flourish under new ownership, even as one of the owners is facing an additional challenge.

Holly Montoure and her daughter, Miranda Hoyer, took ownership of Staff of Life on July 1. For Montoure, it was an opportunity to continue to serve her faith after being a Catholic school teacher for a number of years.

“I liked the Christian part of it,” Montoure said. “The health food was just a bonus.”

Printco adds senior accountant to team

Printco Industries, Inc. has announced the addition of a senior accountant to its team.

Tina Bergner was hired recently to assist with all facets of the accounting operations at the manufacturing/design facility located in Pulaski.

Bergner has a Bachelor of Science in accounting and business through Lakeland College. Bergner feels that having worked numerous years in accounting as well as other industries has provided her a solid foundation for the position.

IPA ranks KerberRose in top 200 firms

KerberRose was recently ranked within the Top 200 Firms in the nation by Inside Public Accounting (IPA).

This is the firm’s sixth consecutive year making IPA’s Top Firms lists, and the first year within the Top 200 Firms.

The Platt Group publishes the award-winning IPA newsletter for the public accounting profession and the annual IPA National Benchmarking Report. Each year, the IPA releases its annual financial performance analysis and ranking of the nation’s top 400 largest firms.

Barn at Sunset Acres breaks ground

Remnants of corn stalks lay near where an interesting new wedding venue broke ground Aug. 23 in the village of Pulaski.

The Barn at Sunset Acres is being touted as a state-of-the art facility that will combine the rustic feel of a barn wedding with modern equipment that will make a couple’s special day seem like the best of their lives. Completion is expected in summer 2022.

Twig’s sodas go from glass to aluminum

Twig’s Beverage Company has been bottling delicious Sun Drop soda for decades, and a few years ago, the company started developing its own specialty sodas to quench locals’ thirsts.

Now, those flavors have been canned.

Twig’s has decided to put its root beer, black cherry, orange and grape flavors into aluminum cans in the hopes of getting into additional markets beyond the current grocery stores and other places that sell specialty sodas.

Oh My Peonies prepare for busy summer

A local flower farm is looking forward to a busy summer.

Oh My Peonies, located just outside of Marion, is operated by brother and sister, Lee Mielke and Sue Anderson, who grew up at the farm house where Oh My Peonies is located.

In 2000, Mielke started to plant peonies to brighten up the community. He planted peonies while working a job as a farmer. In 2014, he retired from his job and ultimately decided to focus on the peonies. Mielke had originally planted irises, but after troubles with those, he switched to peonies.
