It is with heavy hearts but gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Lorraine Marie Olson, 89, who died peacefully at home on July 22, 2024, after a short battle with cancer.

Lorraine was born June 20, 1935, in Oconto, to Rupert and Erma (Kruger) Rasmussen, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her husband, Russell, and brother, Allen Rasmussen.

Gordon R. Schlender, 92, of Wittenberg, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Rennes Health and Rehab in Weston.

Gordon was born on July 23, 1932, in the Town of Wyoming, Waupaca County, the son of Fred and Alma (Beyersdorf) Schlender.

On Feb. 28, 1953, Gordon was united in marriage to Agnes Thorson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Morris. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2024.

Cora M. Rotter-Boerst, 91, of Gillett, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024.

Cora was born on Sept. 3, 1932, to the late Robert and Bernice (Scutt) Jewell. Her great-grandfather, Rodney Gillette, named the city of Gillett.

She graduated with the class of 1950 from Gillett High School. In April 1952, Cora married William Rotter at Tabor United Methodist Church in Gillett. The couple raised four children, Larry, Patricia, Dale and Ron. She was a devoted homemaker, loving wife and mother.

Joan Inez (Melendes) Houska, 86, of Oconto Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024, with family by her side.

Joan was born on Aug. 25, 1937, to the late Alex and Jinx (Palmer) Melendes. She married Kenneth Houska at Hickory United Methodist Church on June 24, 1972. She worked for Liquid Carbonic, Rosner Insurance and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier.

Verna Irene Weisnicht, 88, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, in Shawano.

Verna was born on Oct. 11, 1935, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, daughter of the late Oscar and Eleanor (Brutlag) Schultz. On Sept. 15, 1951, she was united in marriage to Melvin Weisnicht in Shawano. The couple spent 68 years together before Melvin’s passing in November 2019.

Yvonne was born in the Town of Morgan, Oconto County, on Sept. 4, 1935, daughter of the late Lebrecht and Grace (Pellow) Olderman. Yvonne grew up in the Gillett area and graduated from Gillett High School with the class of 1953.
