Oconto Falls’ Whiting wins 4th state title

Oconto Falls senior Clayton Whiting capped a historic high school career with his fourth state title after winning the Division 2 182-pound weight class at the 2022 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 26 at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Whiting won the first-place match with a 17-5 major decision win over Northwestern’s Ian Smith.

The four state titles puts Whiting in elite company, as only 19 other wrestlers had accomplished the feat coming into this year’s tournament.

Eight area wrestlers were be in action during the third and final day of the 2022 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 26 at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Oconto Falls' Clayton Whiting and Pulaski's Trenton Gibbons each wrestled in first-place matches, while six others placed.

Twelve area wrestlers will be in action during the second day of the 2022 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 25 at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Ethan Eggert (113): Eggert won by pin in 3:59 over Holmen’s Turner Campbell; Eggert wins 8-2 decision over New Richmond’s Luke Kamish.

3 Panther wrestlers headed to state tournament

Three Oconto Falls and and one Lena wrestler qualified for state after competing in sectionals on Feb. 19.

No Suring/Gillett wrestlers qualified for state, which will be held at the Kohl Center in Madison from Feb. 24-26.

Oconto Falls’ Clayton Whiting, Graeson Pankratz and Cole Bozile all qualified for state after strong showings at the Division 2 Oconto Falls Sectional in Oconto Falls. To qualify for state in Division 2, wrestlers had to place first, second or third in their respective weight classes.

Bonduel's Bogacz qualifies for state wrestling tournament again

Wrestlers from Bonduel, Shawano and Pulaski all qualified for the state tournament after competing in sectionals on Feb. 19.

No Menominee Indian wrestlers qualified for state, which will be held at the Kohl Center in Madison from Feb. 24-26.

Bonduel junior Tyson Bogacz qualified for state after earning a second-place finish in the 160-pound weight class during the Division 3 Bonduel Sectional, which was held at Shawano Community High School.

Witt-Birn wrestlers Gauderman, Potrykus qualify for state

Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School wrestlers David Gauderman and Pierson Potrykus each qualified for state after competing in the Division 3 Bonduel Sectional, which was held at Shawano Community High School on Feb. 19.

To qualify for state in Division 3, wrestlers had to place first, second or third in their respective weight classes.

Gauderman won the 220-pound weight class with a 3-0 record, while Potrykus came in second at 126 pounds with a mark of 2-1.

The duo will head to Madison for the WIAA state tournament, which runs Feb. 24-26.

Whiting won the 182 weight class with a 3-0 mark. Pankratz finished 2-1 at the 120 class, and Bozile also went 2-1 at 126 pounds.

Bonduel High School wrestler Tyson Bogacz qualified for state after earning a second-place finish during the Division 3 Bonduel Sectional, which was held at Shawano Community High School on Feb. 19 in Shawano.

To qualify for state in Division 3, wrestlers had to place first, second or third in their respective weight classes.

Bogacz’s day began with 5-0 decision win and 7-0 decision victory. He was topped 3-0 in the first-place match, but he bounced back with pin in 3 minutes, 39 seconds in the second-place match.
