Athlete Profile: Trenton Gibbons

The Pulaski High School wrestling team has been one of the top-ranked Division 1 teams over the past couple years. Trenton Gibbons, now a senior, is one of the wrestlers who has led the charge for the Red Raiders over that span.

Gibbons is a perfect 5-0 in Fox River Classic Conference matches this winter after landing on the all-conference first team last year. To cap his junior season, Gibbons placed second in the Division 1 182-pound weight class at state.

Shawano boys 8th, Oconto Falls 11th at wrestling invitational

Area wrestling teams and individuals turned in strong results across the state on Jan. 21.

Shawano and Oconto Falls sent boys teams to Sheboygan for the Herb Tyler Invitational. The Hawks took eighth place, while Oconto Falls was 11th.

Bonduel, Pulaski, Suring/Gillett and Oconto Falls all had girls place at the Wisconsin Challenge Series in Wausau.

The Shawano boys accumulated 95 points to earn its eighth-place finish at the Herb Tyler Invitational.

Athlete Profile: Tyson Bogacz

Bonduel High School’s Tyson Bogacz has put together a strong high school wrestling career and is eager to cap it with an exclamation point this winter.

Bogacz is a two-time state qualifier, making it to Madison as a sophomore and junior. He placed sixth at state both years.

The Bonduel senior placed second at the Neenah Invite, third at the Lourdes On the Water Classic and first at the Fred Lehrke Invitational this winter.

Bogacz also earned his 100th career win at the Neenah Invite.

WRESTLING

Shawano goes 2-3 at SPASH Duals

Shawano earned a 2-3 record at the SPASH Duals on Jan. 14 in Stevens Point.

Caden Young and Brady Jones each posted 5-0 records on the day for the Hawks.

Drake Herm, Carsen Herm and Mason Theis all finished 3-1.

Lena 2nd at wrestling multi-dual after going 4-1

The Lena High School wrestling team posted a 4-1 record to place second at a multi-dual on Jan. 12 in Lena.

Suring/Gillett also competed at the multi-dual, going 1-4 to come in fifth place. The winning team from Peshtigo was undefeated at the event.

Lena earned dual wins over Suring/Gillett (36-24), Florence/Niagara (52-18), Crivitz (42-20) and Oneida Nation (48-0), while falling to Peshtigo (58-24).

New London 33

Shawano won eight of the final 11 weight classes to claim a Bay Conference win over New London on Jan. 12 in Shawano.

Drake Herm got Shawano on the scoreboard with a 16-2 major decision win at 138 pounds. Dylan Hodkiewicz (145) and Carsen Herm (152) followed with pins in 49 and 51 seconds, respectively.

Herm leads Shawano at invitational

Carsen Herm placed first to lead Shawano to a fifth-place finish as a team at the 66th Fred Lehrke Invitational on Jan. 7 in Schofield.

Herm earned that finish in the 152-pound weight class with a 5-0 record. He won each match by pin.

Shawano's Caden Young placed second at 170 pounds with a 4-1 mark. Andrew Kakwitch (145), Conner Chelberg (182) and Wahkeenyah Waukau (220) all took fourth.

Lena 1st at home quad

Lena defeated Oneida Nation (60-0), Suring/Gillett (54-18), Elcho (66-6) and Ripon (54-24) during a quad on Jan. 6 in Lena.

Oconto Falls posts perfect mark at home wrestling quad

The Oconto Falls High School wrestling team posted a 3-0 record during a quad on Jan. 5 in Oconto Falls.

The Panthers picked up wins over Clintonville (54-24), Kewaunee (54-24) and Oconto (51-30).

In the opening dual against Clintonville, nine of the 14 weight classes were forfeits. Garrett Ganter (106), Taylor Whiting (113), Landon Magnin (120), Ethan Zielinski (132), Cole Bozile (138) and Jeremy Earley (152) were winners by forfeit for Oconto Falls.

Shawano picked up a low-scoring win over Bay Conference foe Seymour on Jan. 5 in Seymour. The Hawks led 19-9 by halftime.

Leah Nordin scored 18 points for Shawano, while Ella Stuber added seven points.
