Raab, Stedjee get first career feature wins at Shawano Speedway

The future of racing was on display as go karters were honored in prerace ceremonies at the Shawano Speedway on June 12.

Former karter Marcus Yarie grabbed a feature win along with Zackary Raab, Brett Swedberg, Dylan Stedjee and Jason Stueck.

The IMCA Sport Mods took the green flag first for their feature event with Andrew Engels and Raab leading them to the line. Raab put his car into the top spot on lap one and began to leave the pack in the rearview mirror.

While last week was the unofficial start to summer, the weather took a week to catch up. Nick Anvelink, Jeremy Christians, Jayden Schmidt, Marcus Yarie and Lucas Hacker all beat the heat and their respective fields to find victory lane at Shawano Speedway on June 5.

In the Late Model division, Troy Springborn looked to get his season on track as he jumped to a large lead in the opening laps of the feature event. Meanwhile, Joel Bennett and Chris Engels were giving chase.

Block, Van Straten capture first feature wins of season

Memorial Day weekend brought cool temps and hot action to Shawano Speedway for the unofficial start of summer.

Wyatt Block, Travis Van Straten, Nick Anvelink, Tyler Sobiesczyk and Jason Stueck got their summer’s off to the best start of everyone with feature wins.

Early action saw Jerry Wilinski jump to the early lead in the IMCA Modifieds feature and begin to build a big lead. Caution flew on lap four, bringing the field to his bumper. On the restart, Wilinski again scooted away, only to have a debris bring out another caution.

A picture-perfect night for racing brought a large crowd to the Legendary Half Mile at Shawano Speedway. With added money in the IMCA Modified division, it was sure to be a big night of racing.

Jayden Schmidt, Eric “Chummy” Arneson, Johnny Whitman, Gunner Frank and Brad Wedde had the biggest of nights with feature wins in their respective divisions.

The IMCA Sport Mods got the show rolling with Jason Jach trying to find a groove after a rough early start to the season. Jach grabbed the early advantage despite multiple cautions in the early going.

A bad night at the racetrack is often better than a good night anywhere else on a Saturday night, unless you’re a driver in early May. Seasonable temps greeted the die-hards in the stands as racing returned May 8 for week four at the Shawano Speedway.

The action on the track continues to be some of the best around, as young guns and veterans fight it out for wins each week. This week saw Jeremy Christians, Tyler Sobiesczyk, Todd Frank, Eddie Muenster and Tanner Westphal find their places in victory lane.

Mullen captures 3rd straight feature win at Shawano Speedway

The Shawano Speedway celebrated its Night of Champions on May 1, honoring the 2020 championship class.

Webster’s Dictionary defines a champion as “someone who fights or speaks publicly in support of a person, belief, cause.” Before the races, another champion’s life was honored as Bobby Bennett was remembered. Although Bennett never won a track championship at Shawano, it was only appropriate to honor his life on the Night of Champions.

Week two of the racing season at the Shawano Speedway rolled onto the track with heavy jackets, stocking caps and blankets filling the grandstands as cold temperatures were the story of the night.

With other tracks having to cancel due to weather, the pit area was full of travelers and regulars for the night of racing. Hardy fans came out to see Jared Siefert, Luke Lemmens, Tyler Sobiescyk, Mike Mullen and Tanner Westphal pick up feature wins.

Nick Anvelink is king in speedway’s opener

After a tumultuous 2020, the thunder returned to the Legendary Half Mile with the Dirt Kings traveling series joining the Late Model field April 17. Another welcomed sight was a nearly packed grandstand as fans were eager to return to some normalcy. With 111 cars checking in, the night was sure to be action packed at Shawano Speedway.

Shawano Speedway ready to get another season rolling

Shawano Speedway is about ready to get its 2021 season underway, with many fan-favorite promotions and drivers back.

With the favorable weather in the past few weeks, the speedway looks to be on track to starting the season on April 17 as originally planned.

The usual five classes — Mighty 4s, IMCA Sport Mod, IMCA Modified, IMCA Stock Car and Late Models — are back.
