Bonduel’s Thompson makes CWC-East softball first team

The Bonduel and Menominee Indian softball teams had multiple athletes named to Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division all-conference teams after the season wrapped up.

Four Bonduel players earned recognition, while three Menominee Indian players were honored.

Bonduel freshman Hailee Thompson made the first team, while sophomores Nakiyah Henning and Abby Stoltenow each landed on the second team. Freshman Lila Pleshek was an honorable mention.

Thompson ended her freshman season with a .407 batting average. She clubbed 10 doubles.

Multiple baseball players from Bonduel and Menominee Indian were named to all-conference teams in the Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division.

Bonduel had five players recognized, while Menominee Indian had three.

Seniors Garrett Engel and Cole Anderson each landed on the CWC-East first team. Seniors Brett Margelofsky and Jack Johnson made the second team, while senior Carson Robaidek was on the honorable mention list.

Roloff, Lowney lead Shawano at state track and field meet

The Shawano Community High School track and field teams enjoyed a strong day of competition at the Division 2 WIAA State Track and Field Championships on June 25 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.

Juniors Isabel Roloff and Elliott Lowney led the way for the Hawks after claiming a second-place finish each. Roloff was second in the girls pole vault, while Lowney placed second in the boys 200-meter dash. Roloff cleared 11 feet, while Lowney posted a time of 22.16 seconds.

Shawano Community High School’s Isabel Roloff and Elliott Lowney each turned in second-place finishes during the Division 2 WIAA State Track & Field Championships on June 25 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.

Roloff claimed second in the girls pole vault, while Lowney placed second in the boys 200-meter dash. Roloff cleared 11 feet, while Lowney posted a time of 22.16 seconds.

Earlier in the day, Roloff also took fourth in the 100 with a time of 12.34. Lowney was seventh in the 400 with a mark of 50.98.

Track and field athletes from Shawano, Bonduel and Menominee Indian are eager to end their spring seasons on high notes when competing at the WIAA 2021 State Track & Field Championships at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse this week.

Shawano will have four individuals and a pair of relay teams, while Menominee Indian has one individual competing in the Division 2 meet June 25. Bonduel will have a relay team and one individual compete in the Division 3 meet June 24.

The Shawano and Menominee Indian track and field teams each qualified athletes for the state meet after competing at the Division 2 Fox Valley Lutheran Sectional in Appleton.

The sectional started on June 17 but had to be competed June 18 after adverse weather came through the area.

The qualifiers will participate in the state meet on June 25 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.

The Shawano, Oconto Falls and Menominee Indian track and field teams each had several athletes qualify for sectionals after competing at the Division 2 Oconto Falls Regional on June 14 in Oconto Falls.

To advance to sectionals, an individual or relay team had to place in the top four in an event.

Henning’s monster game leads Bonduel softball team past Menominee Indian

Bonduel High School sophomore Nakiyah Henning made her first softball postseason game one to remember, pitching a no-hitter and driving in six runs for the Bears in their 15-0 win in four innings over Menominee Indian in a Division 3 regional contest June 9 in Bonduel.

In the circle, Henning struck out eight of the 12 batters she faced. She allowed one walk, but the Bears were able to eliminate the runner on a stolen base attempt, so Henning faced the minimum over her four innings.

Athlete Profile: Guadalupe Corn

Menominee Indian High School senior Guadalupe Corn is enjoying a strong season as a thrower on the track and field team, with plenty of strong finishes already on her side as the postseason nears.

Corn has especially excelled in the shot put, with four first-place finishes to her name.

She opened the season with a throw of 37 feet to take first at the Eagle Invite in Keshena on April 29. She followed that up with a throw of 37-3½ to place first at the Ryan Jozwiak Memorial Track Invitational on May 11 in Shawano.

Witt-Birn girls track and field team win CWC-Large title

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School girls track and field team earned six first-place individual finishes during the Central Wisconsin Conference-Large Division Meet to take first as a team.

The girls team totaled 135 points, comfortably ahead of Weyauwega-Fremont (101). The Bonduel girls tied for fourth place with 88 points, while Menominee Indian came in ninth with 22 points.

On the boys side, Bonduel came in sixth with 58.5 points. Witt-Birn (50) claimed ninth and Menominee Indian (2) was 10th. Manawa (128) edged Iola-Scandinavia (120) for the team title.
