Wynos signs to play softball in Minnesota

Danika Wynos is turning from an Eagle into a Blue Knight after she signed her letter of intent Dec. 15 to play softball for Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount, Minnesota.

The Menominee Indian High School senior made the announcement official after listening to congratulatory remarks from the school’s athletic director and a former coach.

Public silenced in school board levy vote

Over 40 taxpayers filled the room where the Menominee Indian School Board held a special midday meeting Oct. 24 to approve a tax levy, hoping to voice their opinions on the matter. However, the board made it clear that the decision no longer rested with the people.

Fernandez to perform in Antigo on Aug. 31

Menominee Indian Wade Fernandez will perform Aug. 31 in the Antigo City Park.

Fernandez is an award-winning, internationally acclaimed Indian musician and storyteller. He is strongly tied to nature, environment and the Indian culture using his unique style to captivate his audience. He is hailed as an educator of his people and those for whom he performs.

Antigo Community Band will serve quarter-pound Salm Partner beef franks with sauerkraut and homemade desserts, including root beer floats.

3 Chargers, 1 Bear make CWC-East 1st team

Three baseball players from Wittenberg-Birnamwood and one from Bonduel made the Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division first team this spring.

Senior Mason Meverden, junior Ian Salvesen and sophomore Owen Dickman made the first team from Witt-Birn, while junior Noah Weier represented Bonduel.

Bears’ Thompson named Co-Player of Year in CWC-East

Bonduel High School junior softball player Hailee Thompson was named the Co-Player of the Year in the Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division this spring.

Thompson made the all-conference first team unanimously after serving as the team’s shortstop this spring. She shared the Player of the Year honor with Amherst senior Haley Peskie.

Gillett/Suring softball team ousts Menominee Indian from playoffs

The seventh-seeded Gillett/Suring softball team earned a 15-4 victory in five innings over 10th-seeded Menominee Indian in a Division 3 regional quarterfinal playoff game on May 18 in Gillett.

Despite the final score, the contest was a back-and-forth battle in the early going.

Menominee Indian scored once in the first inning, with Natalie Peters singling home Aniya Peters, who had reached earlier on an error.

Bonduel repeats as CWC golf champions

The Bonduel High School boys golf team won the fourth and final Central Wisconsin Conference meet on May 16 at Greenwood Hills Country Club in Wausau to comfortably win the conference crown.

Bonduel posted a team score of 348 at Greenwood Hills to finish 4-0 at CWC meets this spring.

Rogowski dominates at CWC-Large Meet

The Bonduel, Menominee Indian and Wittenberg-Birnamwood track and field teams all participated in the Central Wisconsin Conference-Large Division Meet on May 12 in Rosholt, with each team having some top finishers.

Reese Rogowski showed why she's one of the top track and field athletes in the state and helped the girls team take fifth at the conference meet after scoring 73 points. The boys team placed 10th with 11 points.

Bonduel boys golf team wins another CWC meet behind Luepke

The Bonduel High School boys golf team continued its big spring season with a first-place finish at a May 9 Central Wisconsin Conference meet at Maple Hills Golf Course in Wittenberg.

Bonduel posted a team score of 350. Wittenberg-Birnamwood grabbed second with a 356. Marion placed ninth with a mark of 466, while Gresham/Menominee Indian took 12th with a score of 584.

Reed Luepke led Bonduel on the course, posting an 18-hole round of 81 to finish as the meet medalist.

Shawano girls win home track and field invitational

The Shawano Community High School girls track and field team dominated the competition and took first at the Ryan Jozwiak Memorial Invitational on May 9 in Shawano.

The Shawano girls accumulated 196 points to finish first. Xavier was a distant second with 92 points. Bonduel took third with 81 points, while Menominee Indian tallied 64 points to take sixth.
