Marion boys basketball team reloading roster

The Marion High School boys basketball team will need several new varsity players to step up this winter after graduating most of the players that made up last year’s team.

Marion posted a 7-16 record during the 2019-20 season, including a 5-7 march through the Central Wisconsin Conference-North Division.

Marion does return Branden Beechy, who landed on the all-conference second team last year as a junior. Beechy led the team by scoring over 11 points per game, and averaged over five rebounds.

No Marion cross-country runners advance to sectionals

Marion High School didn't advance any individuals to sectionals after competing at the Division 3 Rosholt Subsectional on Tuesday.

Each Marion team only had four runners compete, so neither qualified for a score.

Jaden Stuhr led the boys team after completing the course in 20 minutes, 28.95 seconds. Jesse Trebus (22:57.66), Myles Peterson (23:55.86) and Jack VanKooy (28:24.35) also competed for the boys.

Bonduel girls, Witt-Birn boys 2nd at CWC Cross-Country Championships

The Bonduel girls and Wittenberg-Birnamwood boys cross-country teams each secured second-place finishes at the Central Wisconsin Conference Championships on Thursday in Pittsville.

The Bonduel girls finished with the same score as Amherst (43), but Amherst had the better finish from its sixth runner, so it claimed first. The Witt-Birn boys had a score of 67, behind Pacelli (41).

Bonduel girls cross-country team 2nd at Don Chase Relays

The Bonduel High School girls cross-country team posted a score of 35 to place second at the Don Chase Relays on Thursday in Weyauwega.

Kara Troxel led Bonduel with a third-place finish in 21 minutes, 29 seconds.

Ashlyn Kurey (22:22) and Kalleigh Schroeder (22:53) placed sixth and 10th, respectively. Kendra Troxel (23:11) took 12th and Breanna Schnell (24:09) 15th to round out the team score.

Tigerton village, school district receive USDA grants

U.S. Department of Agriculture Wisconsin Rural Development State Director Frank Frassetto announced Monday that the USDA is investing $2.1 million to improve public safety equipment, community buildings and education.

“These investments will allow these rural communities provide safe, modern equipment and supplies to service and meet the needs in their residents,” Frassetto said. “Through our Community Facilities programs, USDA Rural Development partners with communities to maximize the affordability of their infrastructure needs.”

Bonduel girls cross-country team wins home invitational

The trio of Kara Troxel, Ashlyn Kurey and Kalleigh Schroeder helped the Bonduel High School girls cross-country team win the Bonduel Invitational on Tuesday in Bonduel.

The three runners placed inside the top five to power the team to a score of 17.

Troxel finished second with a time of 21:56.2. Kurey and Schroeder weren’t far behind, placing third and fourth in 22:19.6 and 22:46.7, respectively.

Breanna Schnell (23:49.1) and Kendra Troxel (24:06.5) also earned top-10 finishes to round out the team score, taking ninth and 10th, respectively.

Bonduel girls cross-country team claims top finish

The Bonduel High School girls cross-country team won a Central Wisconsin Conference meet after posting the top score at the Charger Invitational on a cool and overcast Sept. 8 evening in Wittenberg.

Bonduel earned a team score of 24, comfortably ahead of second-place Rosholt (39).

The team was led by three top-10 finishes and had its fourth- and fifth-fastest runners place inside the top 15.

Kara Troxel was the team’s top finisher, placing second in 21 minutes, 19 seconds. Ashlyn Kurey wasn’t far behind, finishing fourth in 21:50.5.

Marion/Tigerton football co-op searching for another conference title

The Marion/Tigerton football co-op is hoping for a repeat of 2019 as it prepares for the fall season.

Marion/Tigerton finished 5-1 in the Central Wisconsin Conference eight-man conference to tie for the conference crown last fall. The team went 6-4 overall, which qualified the co-op for the playoffs.

The team is under the direction of new head coach Micah Schwantes this fall, and has high expectations again, even after graduating some impact players and also having some strong teams (Greenwood and Newman Catholic) join the CWC-East Division they’ll be playing in.

Bonduel girls cross-country team places 2nd at invitational

The Bonduel High School girls cross-country team got its fall season off to a strong start, placing second at the T-Bird Invitational on Monday in Iola.

The Bears earned a team score of 36, behind only Amherst (22).

Kara Troxel led the way for Bonduel with a fifth-place finish in 22 minutes, 49.67 seconds. Ashlyn Kurey (23:07.67) and Kalleigh Schroeder (23:39.94) came in eighth and ninth, respectively.

Kendra Troxel (24:01.36) crossed the finish line in 11th, while Breanna Schnell (24:11.39) placed 13th to round out the team score.

Equity names Caroline resident office manager

Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association is pleased to announce that Jessica Grunewald is now serving as office manager at the cooperative’s Reedsville location.

Grunewald previously worked at the cooperative’s Marion market that is now closed. She has a technical degree in agricultural management from Northwest Technical College. She lives in Caroline with her husband, Mike, and their two young children.

As office manager, she will oversee all office functions and staff at the Reedsville market.
