With Jordan Love missing the home opener, it was Josh Jacobs and the running game that led Green Bay to a 16-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2.

The Packers totaled 261 yards on 53 attempts on the ground, which totals the most rushing yards in a game by the Packers since 2003. Jacobs finished the game with 151 yards on 32 carries. The second leading rusher in the game for the Packers was Malik Willis, who filled in for the injured Love, totaling 41 rushing yards on six carries.

If/when the Packers are eliminated from the NFC playoff race — they’re hanging on by a whisker with a 5-8 record entering their week 14 bye — the Packers could make a call to the bullpen to Jordan Love.

The situation certainly appears to be impacting the second-year pro’s workload.

As a rookie, Love didn’t play a single down and never participated in any preseason games due to the pandemic. With Rodgers sitting out Green Bay’s mandatory minicamp, the Packers now must prepare for the possibility Love could open the season as their starting quarterback.

Former Packers quarterback Brett Favre says Aaron Rodgers was surprised by Green Bay’s decision to draft a quarterback in the first round.

Favre said Wednesday on “The Rich Eisen Show” that he had spoken with Rodgers since the Packers traded up four spots in the first round to take Utah State’s Jordan Love with the 26th overall pick in the draft Thursday.

The Green Bay Packers traded up four spots in the first round Thursday night to select Utah State quarterback Jordan Love as a potential successor to two-time MVP Aaron Rodgers.

Green Bay sent a fourth-round draft pick (No. 136 overall) to the Miami Dolphins for the opportunity to move up from the No. 30 spot and take Love at No. 26.

Love has earned raves for his arm strength and size. But the 6-foot-4 quarterback threw 17 interceptions in a so-so junior season last year after having much better production in 2018.
