Girls golf season underway

Pulaski’s golf team placed seventh out of seven teams Aug. 16 at the Hilly Haven Golf Course in De Pere in the first Fox River Classic Conference meet of the 2024 season.

The Red Raiders carded a 210, with first-place De Pere at 158.

Scores for Pulaski were 49, 51, 53 and 57.

Junior Morgan Schuh carded a 59.

Bay Conference Mini-Meet No. 1

Shawano golfers kicked off their season Aug. 15 at the Bay Conference Mini-Meet No. 1 at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne.

The Hawks carded a 196, one stroke behind Seymour.

Bonduel, Oconto Falls girls golf teams earn academic honors

The Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin (GCAW) announced the recipients of the 13th annual Team Academic All-State award, established to recognize high school golf teams with the highest “team” GPAs (team is defined as the five golfers on the roster for the girls’ fall 2023 WIAA regional tournament).

Bonduel and Oconto Falls teams earned honorable mention status in Division 2.

Pulaski High School girls golf will have three new coaches next season. John Heinz is the new head coach. Assistants will be Kimberly Froseth and Taylor Walters, who will co-coach the junior varsity squad.

“I would like to thank Sarah Kohls for her many years of service leading the PHS girls golf team and am thankful for Andy Bock’s knowledge and expertise that he shared with our student athletes over the last years,” said PHS athletic director Janel Batten.

Batten is excited by the new coaching staff.

Adams named top boys runner in NEC

Oconto Falls’ Ben Adams is the Northeastern Conference cross country boys runner of the year, officials announced.

Adams, a junior, was also named to the NEC all-conference first team. Teammate Griffin Kopke, a junior, was named to the second team, and freshman Isaiah Holtz earned honorable mention status.

For the girls, junior Brooke Hodkiewicz was named to the first team.

Teammates Hailey Delzer, a junior, and Emma Meissner, a freshman, were named to the second team. Senior Hannah Ludemann earned honorable mention status.

Ninham finishes 31st at state golf meet

Pulaski’s Vivien Ninham tied for 31st place at the WIAA State Girls Division 1 golf meet at University Ridge Golf Course in Verona on Oct. 9-10.

After the first day, she was tied for 24th place with an 85, 13 above par. Ninham shot the same 85 on the second day, giving her a total score of 170, 26 above par.

Izzi Stricker, of Waunakee, was the champion. She carded a 71 and 73 for a total of 144, par on the course.

Pulaski’s Vivien Ninham placed third in sectional action and qualified for the state golf meet.

Ninham, a senior, shot a 77, just five strokes off the top golfer at the WIAA Division 1 sectional at High Cliff Golf Course in Sherwood on Oct. 2.

Teammate Ella Ficarri tied for 27th with a 91.

Shawano, as team, shot a 389 and finished in last place out of eight teams.

Shawano’s girls golf team advanced to sectional action after finishing in fourth place at the Green Bay Preble Regional. Pulaski ended in sixth place.

Pulaski’s Vivian Ninham finished tied for fourth overall with a score of 81, while Ella Ficarri finished tied for seventh with a score of 84.

Shawano’s Sophia Eggert was the only Hawk to finish in the top 14, cashing in an 85 on the day.

At Little River Golf Course in Peshtigo, Oconto Falls advanced out of regional action, while Bonduel as a team saw their season end.

The Shawano Hawks finished first at the Oconto Falls girls golf invite on Sept. 11. Sophia Eggert led the Hawks as she medaled with a score of 80 during the match. In total, Shawano won with a score of 385, just four points below Seymour’s 389.

Pulaski girls golf team claims fourth at FRCC Conference Meet

Looking to put on a strong showing, the Pulaski Red Raiders had a great day on the course Sept. 8 as they finished off their day with a fourth-place finish and a team score of 187, one stroke ahead of De Pere.

What stood out the most was how close a lot of these teams were as the Red Raiders were just three shots out of third place and four strokes away from second. Bay Port has been the class of the conference all season long, and that continued with their 17-stroke win. Their score of 166 took home first place from the meet held at Seymour’s Crystal Springs Golf Course.

Shawano finished second, while Bonduel placed sixth out of seven teams during a Bay Conference matchup in Seymour on Aug. 29.

While Xavier won the meet with a score of 184, Shawano was close behind, scoring 194. Bonduel scored a combined 253 on the day.

Junior Sophia Eggert had the lowest score out of all teams, shooting a 40. Junior Gabi Krause had the lowest score for Bonduel, shooting a 59.

Pulaski finished fifth out of eight times in an FRCC matchup with eight teams competing Aug. 29.
