Shawano’s Beyer, Roloff sign letters of intent

Shawano Community High School seniors Grace Beyer and Isabel Roloff each signed letters of intent on Feb. 23 inside the high school.

Beyer will join the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay cross-country team, while Roloff heads to UW-Milwaukee to compete on the track and field team.

Shawano’s Beyer, Oconto Falls’ Adams named cross-country Runners of the Year

It was another strong year for area cross-country runners, with plenty of top finishes and achievements being met along the way.

As the season came to a close, it was Shawano senior Grace Beyer and Oconto Falls senior Joe Adams who continued to deliver under pressure. For their efforts, Beyer and Adams were named the NEW Media Inc. Female and Male Runners of the Year.

Beyer was the top runner for the Shawano girls team all season, and she eventually helped the team qualify for state.

Area individual cross-country runners participated in the 2021 State Boys & Girls Cross-Country Championships on Oct. 30 at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids, with Gillett’s Alex Peterson placing 10th to highlight the group.

Runners from Oconto Falls, Gillett and Pulaski also competed at the championships.

A total of four individual runners from Gillett participated in the state meet, with brothers Alex and Evan Peterson in the Division 3 boys field, and Angela Mosconi and Carleigh Kaczmarek in the girls race.

Onesti guides Shawano boys cross-country team to 8th at state

Area individual cross-country runners and three teams participated in the 2021 State Boys & Girls Cross-Country Championships on Oct. 30 at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids, with the Shawano boys team snagging eighth place.

Bonduel’s girls team and individual boys runners from Bonduel and Pulaski, plus the Shawano girls team, also competed at the championships.

The Shawano boys earned the eighth-place finish with a score of 220. Ethan Onesti was the team’s top runner, placing 22nd with a time of 17 minutes, 7 seconds.

Several area teams competed in the 2021 State Boys & Girls Cross-Country Championships on Oct. 30 at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

Below are results for the area athletes and teams that were in action, with places and times for each individual and a place for teams that competed.

Pulaski’s Shaw qualifies for state cross-country championships

Pulaski High School’s T.J. Shaw qualified for state after placing eighth individually at the Division 1 Manitowoc Lincoln Sectional on Oct. 23 in Milwaukee.

Shaw completed the course in 17 minutes, 2.7 seconds to earn the last individual state spot.

Shaw will now prepare for the state championships, which are scheduled for Oct. 30 at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids. The Division 1 boys race will begin at 12:35 p.m.
