Cross-Country: Bonduel teams ready for another state run

SHAWANO — Two local teams and three individual runners will put on their uniforms and lace up their shoes one last time this season to compete in the 2019 State Cross-Country Championships at Ridges Golf Course on Saturday.

Bonduel will send its boys and girls teams into the Division 3 races, while Shawano’s Demetrius Kaquatosh, Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Wyatt Dickman and Clintonville’s Jesse Wilson all run as individuals in the Division 2 boys race.

WESTFIELD — The Bonduel High School boys and girls cross-country teams are headed back to state after second-place finishes at the Division 3 Westfield Sectional on Saturday.

The Bonduel boys team posted a score of 72, while the girls tallied an 80. Gillett finished first in both races, with the girls team posting a 36 and the boys a 37.

Kara Troxel led the Bonduel girls team with a fifth-place finish in 21 minutes, 4.82 seconds. Carter Kurey came in eighth with a mark of 18:22.59 to pace the boys.

WESTFIELD — The Gillett High School boys and girls cross-country teams each qualified for the state meet after first-place finishes at the Division 3 Westfield Sectional on Saturday.

The boys team posted a score of 37, while the girls tallied a 36. Bonduel finished second in both races, with the boys team finishing with a score of 72 and the girls an 80.

Cross-Country: No Panthers qualify for state

TOMAHAWK — No Oconto Falls High School cross-country runners qualified for state while competing at the Division 2 Tomahawk Sectional at Edgewater Country Club on Saturday.

Autumn Canavera was the top girls runner for the Panthers, while Joe Adams paced the boys team. The Oconto Falls girls took eighth with a team score of 220, while the boys tallied a 315 to take 13th.

Canavera finished the course in 21 minutes, 13.1 seconds to take 23rd place. Adams finished 33rd after posting a time of 17:46.2.

Cross-Country: Kaquatosh, Dickman, Wilson all qualify for state

TOMAHAWK — Shawano's Demetrius Kaquatosh, Wittenberg-Birnamwood's Wyatt Dickman and Clintonville's Jesse Wilson all qualified for state by placing in the top six at the Division 2 Tomahawk Sectional at Edgewater Country Club on Saturday.

Kaquatosh, who won a Bay Conference individual title on Oct. 17, placed second with a time of 16:41.6.

Cross-Country: Moss leads Menominee Indian at sectional

ATHENS — Isaiah Moss placed 13th to lead the Menominee Indian High School boys cross-country team at the Division 2 Athens Sectional at Erbach Park on Friday.

Moss, a freshman, finished the race in 17 minutes, 55.6 seconds, missing out on qualifying for state as an individual by about 53 seconds.

Menominee Indian didn't qualify for a team score with only four runners competing. The Eagles did not have any girls competing at sectionals due to a WIAA rule, but can in 2020.

SHAWANO — Every cross-country runner hopes to be putting up their best times of the season as the season winds down. Shawano’s Demetrius Kaquatosh is doing just that as his high school career winds down.

Kaquatosh won the Bay Conference Meet on Oct. 17, helping the boys team finish second.

The senior finished fourth in the small division at the Seymour Invitational on Oct. 10, leading the team to a fourth-place finish.

Cross-Country: Clintonville’s Wilson wins NEC title again

FREEDOM — Clintonville High School sophomore Jesse Wilson placed first at the North Eastern Conference Championships on Saturday at Irish Waters Golf Course.

Wilson also won the conference title last year as a freshman. He finished the course in 16 minutes, 48.52 seconds on Saturday after claiming the top spot in 2018 with a time of 16:49.64.

Wilson was battling a pair of Freedom runners for the top spot the entire race. The sophomore was able to overcome a late deficit for the first-place finish.

Cross-Country: Falls' Canavera, Kaczmarek lead girls at NEC Championships

FREEDOM —The Oconto Falls High School cross-country team participated in its final meet before sectionals, running in the North Eastern Conference Championships on Saturday at Irish Waters Golf Course.

The girls team was led by Autumn Canavera and Carleigh Kaczmarek, who each placed in the top 20 to help the team to a fifth-place finish. The boys team, which was paced by Joe Adams' top-20 finish, came in eighth.

Canavera turned in Oconto Falls' top individual finish on the day, placing 15th after completing the course in 21 minutes, 53.49 seconds.

Cross-Country: Hawks’ Kaquatosh wins individual Bay title

SHERWOOD — Shawano Community High School’s Demetrius Kaquatosh was the top finisher at the Bay Conference Meet at High Cliff Golf Course on Thursday.

Kaquatosh completed the course in 16 minutes, 15 seconds, over 12 seconds quicker than any other boys runner.

‘The race felt great. In the beginning of the week, I was the underdog, I wasn’t expected to win and coming across the finish line it felt great, it was really unforgettable,” said Kaquatosh. “I’m hoping that this will boost my confidence over to sectionals where I wish to qualify for state.”
