Former Bucks GM, Wisconsin coach John Erickson dies at 92

MILWAUKEE — John Erickson, a former Milwaukee Bucks general manager and Wisconsin men’s basketball coach, has died. He was 92.

Rick Wiseman, funeral director at Porter Funeral Home in Lenexa, Kansas, confirmed Friday that Erickson died Wednesday in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Porter Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 32 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Brook Lopez hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points, while Khris Middleton and Eric Bledsoe added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Donte DiVincenzo led the bench players by scoring 17 points.

LeBron, Giannis choose their teams for the NBA All-Star Game

CHICAGO — Anthony Davis is LeBron James’ teammate in Los Angeles, and they’ll be teammates at the All-Star Game in Chicago as well.

James took his fellow Lakers All-Star with the No. 1 overall pick of the Feb. 16 game’s draft on Thursday, as he matched wits with fellow captain Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks for the second consecutive year.

Middleton, Connaughton to participate in all-star events

CHICAGO — Milwaukee Bucks forward Khris Middleton and guard Pat Connaughton will participate in State Farm All-Star Saturday Night, the NBA announced Tuesday.

Middleton will compete in the Taco Bells Skills Challenge while Connaughton will go up against the highest flyers in the NBA during the AT&T Slam Dunk competition. Both events, which are part of the 2020 State Farm All-Star Weekend in Chicago, will air live on TNT from United Center on Saturday, Feb. 15, beginning at 7 p.m.

Antetokounmpo named Eastern Conference Player of the Month

MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has been named the Kia NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month for January, the NBA announced Tuesday.

Antetokounmpo has now won the award each month this season and in seven of the last eight months dating back to last season.

While leading the Bucks to an NBA-best 11-2 record in January, Antetokounmpo averaged 29.2 points (third in Eastern Conference), 13.4 rebounds (second in Eastern Conference) and 5.7 assists per game while shooting 54.7% from the field.

Milwaukee bounced back from its second home loss with a convincing win over Phoenix on Sunday at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. The Bucks held a 67-52 lead at halftime.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led a balanced Milwaukee attack with 30 points. He also had 19 rebounds and nine rebounds.

Khris Middleton added 25 points, eight rebounds and six assists, while Brook Lopez had 17 points and eight blocks. Eric Bledsoe chipped in 12 points and seven boards.

CHICAGO — The All-Star Game is going to have plenty of new faces.

The NBA released the list of the players Thursday voted by the league’s head coaches as reserves for the Feb. 16 game in Chicago, including six who will be All-Stars for the first time.

Kyle Lowry of the NBA champion Toronto Raptors is headed back to the game, as are Miami’s Jimmy Butler, Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons, Milwaukee’s Khris Middleton, Portland’s Damian Lillard, Denver’s Nikola Jokic, Houston’s Russell Westbrook and — for the first time since 2016 — Oklahoma City’s Chris Paul.

NBA changing All-Star Game format, adding a Kobe tribute

CHICAGO — Kobe Bryant's final jersey number will be something this year's NBA All-Stars play to reach.

The NBA announced major changes to the All-Star format on Thursday, turning every quarter into a mini-game for charity before an untimed final quarter with a target score that will decide which team wins. Scores will be reset back to 0-0 at the start of the second and third quarters, then restored to begin the fourth quarter.

LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks will be the captains for the NBA All-Star Game, just as they were last season. They earned the captaincies by being the top overall votegetters from the Western and Eastern Conferences, respectively.
