Clintonville capped play at its home tournament by going 1-2 on Saturday, topping Antigo but dropping two games to Little Chute. Clintonville finished the six-team tournament with a 3-2 record to take second place.

Oconto Falls finished 1-2 for the tournament.

Appleton 10

Shawano earned its first win of the summer in a wild matchup with Appleton on Thursday in Shawano.

Shawano scored twice in the first and second innings to grab a 4-0 lead, but Appleton scored the next seven runs and led 7-4 going into the bottom of the sixth. Shawano answered with a 10-run frame to retake the lead and then held off the visitors in the seventh.

Oconto Falls bounced back from a loss on Tuesday by doubling up Shiocton on Wednesday at a tournament in Clintonville.

Oconto Falls will play at 5 p.m. on Friday for its next tournament game.

Baseball’s back: MLB sets 60-game schedule

Major League Baseball issued a 60-game schedule Tuesday night that will start July 23 or 24 in empty ballparks as the sport tries to push ahead amid the coronavirus following months of acrimony.

A dramatically altered season with games full of new rules was the final result of failed financial negotiations. But for fans eager to see any baseball this year, at least now they can look forward to opening day.

Shiocton 2

Clintonville improved to 5-1 on the season with a win over Shiocton on Tuesday in Clintonville. The game was part of Clintonville’s tournament.

Clintonville will play next against Antigo on Thursday. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.

Matthew Morse and Jared Cartwright each scored two runs to lead Clintonville at the plate. The hosts scored three runs in the first and fourth innings.

New batting cages up at Memorial Park thanks to donation

SHAWANO — New batting cages are up at Memorial Park thanks to a donation from the Jerry Senzig Memorial Fund and Memorial Park Field Fund.

The cages were set up by the Shawano Youth League next to the splash pad.

Safety of batters and pitchers was at the forefront of the decision to replace the batting cages.

Originally, the youth league thought about putting up benches, but ultimately decided on batting cages because Jerry Senzig, who passed away in 2018, was heavily involved with the youth league and would want to help the players out in some fashion.

Pulaski, Waupaca move to 2-0 in Dairyland League play

The Dairyland League played its second full week of the season over the weekend, starting with a Friday night matchup between the Shawano Lobos and Hofa Park Panthers.

Shawano 1, Hofa Park 0

Shawano pitchers surrendered just four hits in the contest and have allowed just three runs through two games. The Lobos improved to 1-1.

Bob Tilot and Adam Frost each had two hits for Hofa Park, which fell to 1-2 overall.

Pulaski 7, Bonduel 4

The Pulaski Reds topped the Bonduel Broncos on Sunday in Pulaski.

Clintonville holds off Shawano

Clintonville continued its strong start to the summer season, hanging on late for a 10-9 win over Shawano on Thursday at Olen Park in Clintonville.

After falling behind early, Clintonville (4-1) tied the game with a run in the third inning before plating nine runs in the fourth. Shawano (0-1) refused to give up though, scoring seven runs in the top of the seventh, with the game-tying run being thrown out at the plate to end the contest.

Clintonville used a three-run fifth inning to pull away from Oconto Falls during a Tuesday matchup in Clintonville.

Clintonville led 4-0 after scoring two runs in the first and third innings, but Oconto Falls scored four times in the fourth to tie it up.

Jared Cartwright doubled twice and drove in three runs for Clintonville. Klay Finger also had three RBIs on two hits.
