Resch named to BABA Hall of Fame class

The Badger Amateur Baseball Association has added four more members to its Hall of Fame, including Birnamwood’s Dave Resch.

Resch passed away in 2019 and his sons, Brad and Rich, accepted their father’s award Aug. 27 at a BABA semifinal game in Little Falls.

Resch began his BABA career in 1957, playing for Mattoon. The following year, he helped form a BABA team in Birnamwood, which did not have a team for a few years.

Antigo/Polar wins BABA title on walk-off homer

Antigo/Polar won the Badger Amateur Baseball Association Grand Championship on a AJ Kirsch walk-off home run. Kirsch’s homer gave Antigo/Polar a 4-3 win over Scandinavia on Sept. 3 in Antigo.

Kirsch, Jed Weix, Isaac Bixby and Will Kubeny all finished with two hits for Antigo/Polar. Kubeny homered among his hits, while Weix doubled.

The grand championship was a rematch from 2022, with Antigo/Polar also winning that contest.

Bixby also was the winning pitcher.

Little Falls 2

Antigo/Polar doubled up Little Falls in one of the BABA semifinal playoff games on Aug. 27 in Little Falls.

Jed Weix and AJ Kirsch each posted two hits for Antigo/Polar. Will Kubeny drove in a pair of runs.

Kirsch also picked up the win on the mound, striking out five batters over 7⅓ innings.

Chris Dunn took the loss on the hill. He struck out eight batters over nine innings. Kyle Finger led the team at the plate with a pair of hits.

Antigo/Polar 10

Eland 5

Antigo/Polar doubled up Eland in the Northern Division Finals on Aug. 20 in Eland.

Antigo/Polar finished with 10 hits, with Isaac Bixby, Logan Doering and Cole Shepard all posting two knocks. Will Kubeny clubbed a home run.

Bixby was the winning pitcher, while Tyler Nelson was dealt the loss.

Nelson posted three of Eland’s 12 hits in the contest. Joe Buss and Jeremy Jensen added two hits each.

East Division

Gresham 4

Neopit 3 (10 inn.)

Gresham edged Neopit in extra innings in an East Division divisional playoff game on Aug. 13 in Gresham.

Paul Murphy pitched all 10 innings for Gresham to earn the win, striking out six along the way.

Nate Ejnik led Gresham at the plate with three hits, while Chase Quinney had two.

Alex Peters took the loss on the hill, also pitching 10 innings. Pete Bruette and Mike Pecore posted two hits each.

Marion 2

Neopit knocked off Marion in an Aug. 6 clash in Neopit.

Wendell Waukau Jr., Mike Pecore and Mequan Frechette each had two hits for Neopit. Alex Peters earned the win on the hill.

Jaden Stuhr was tagged with the loss on the mound. Mitch Elandt and Spencer Hahn tallied two hits each for Marion.

Tilleda 8

Leopolis 2

Tilleda earned a road win over Leopolis on Aug. 6.

Wittenberg 0

Elderon knocked of Wittenberg in a July 30 clash in Elderon.

Marvin Meronk and Justin Meronk posted two hits each for Elderon. Nathan Lemanczyk picked up the win on the mound.

Nathan Waupekenay was dealt the loss for Wittenberg, which managed just two hits at the plate.

Hatley 3

Hatley took down Antigo/Polar on July 29 in Antigo.

Clintonville 1

Gresham eased to a win over Clintonville in a July 23 matchup in Clintonville.

Joe Ejnik posted four hits, including a home run and double, and drove in four runs for Gresham. Chase Quinney doubled twice, while Crew Weisnicht homered among his two hits. Nate Ejnik also had two hits.

Paul Murphy got the win on the hill after striking out six batters over seven innings.

Clintonville’s Jaden Doornink was dealt the loss.

Tilleda 6

Tigerton took down Tilleda in a July 16 matchup in Tilleda.

Justin Sivertson led Tigerton with three hits, while Jaden Sivertson and Paul Sellner posted two knocks each. Sellner also picked up the win on the mound.

Steven Reinke paced Tilleda at the plate with three hits. Adam Strassburg added two hits, while Brad Bartz homered. Zach Fehrman was dealt the loss.

Brian Rew posted three of Birnamwood’s 10 hits in the contest. Austin Reed was the winning pitcher.

Wittenberg tallied 12 hits as a team, with Pierson Potrykus posting four knocks. Eric Steigerwald, Dominic Anderson and Will Urquhart all had two hits. Anderson was dealt the loss on the mound.
