Bears dominate Sturgeon Bay in playoffs tuneup

Two Packerland Conference football teams heading in opposite directions closed out the regular season Oct. 17.

Bonduel headed to Sturgeon Bay and wrapped up second place in the conference standings behind Kewaunee with a 62-0 win over the Clippers.

Sturgeon Bay wasn’t the only team to be shut out in its regular-season finale, as Bay Port handed Pulaski a 42-0 loss.

Suring sweeps Coleman

At the Suring triangular Oct. 16, Coleman topped Lena 3-0 (30-28, 25-14, 25-16), and Suring swept Coleman 3-0 (25-8, 25-21, 25-21).

Conference meet twice as nice for Bonduel’s Wondra

Mariah Wondra is a big reason why the Bonduel girls cross country team has competed at state the last three seasons.

The senior has also made a name for herself as one of the top distance runners in the Central Wisconsin Conference, as she cruised to her second straight individual championship Oct. 16 at the CWC meet in Rosholt.

Two days after wrapping up a Central Wisconsin Conference-North championship with a five-set win over White Lake, the Tigerton volleyball team wrapped up its regular season with a nonconference match against Almond-Bancroft.

Pulaski wins final conference game of soccer season

The Red Raiders got the win over the host Jaguars 2-1 in the final conference game for each team.

Colin Tackmier opened the scoring for Pulaski off a corner kick by Nolan Pratt in the 16th minute. Chase Beyer got the equalizer for Ashwaubenon in the 44th minute off a direct free kick sent in by Landen Cure.

The game winner came in the 60th minute as Daenen Kehoe found Gunner Decker on a cross the Decker finished for the goal.

Zimdars takes over PHS girls softball

Tom Zimdars thought he was done with coaching girls softball following the 2020 season after three years as varsity coach at West De Pere High School. He left coaching and started officiating football and softball. He didn’t think anything could pull him from retirement — until now.

WIAA sets schedule for state volleyball

Area high school volleyball teams now know their first opponent for the WIAA girls state tournament.

Tournament play will get underway Oct. 21 in divisions 2-5 and Oct. 23 for Division 1 teams.

Suring, Oconto Falls, Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Lena have a bye in the first round and will play their first match Oct. 23 in the regional semifinal round.
