Volleyball regional action gets underway

The No. 5 seed Tigerton dispatched No. 12 seed Wolf River Lutheran 3-0 at home in the opening round of WIAA Division 5 volleyball action Oct. 21.

The Tigers won with set scores of 25-11, 25-3 and 25-17.

Leading Tigerton were Presley Stewart-Rolfs with 13 kills, followed by Mya Smith with five, Aaliyah Lederhaus and Lillian Welch with four each, and Danika Tiller with three.

Red Raiders, Wildcats win in opening round of soccer playoffs

The No. 2 seeded Red Raiders rolled to an 8-1 opening round win over the 15th-seeded Red Devils in WIAA Division 2 postseason soccer action Oct. 21.

Pulaski got a fast start, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes. Green Bay East cut the deficit to 3-1 with a goal in the 22nd minute of the first half.

The Red Raiders pulled away in the second half, scoring five unanswered goals.

Lena/STAA’s Miller named defensive player of the year

One Suring player, a Gillett player and three from Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy earned first team all-conference honors for the Across the Bay Conference.

Lena/STAA senior Colt Miller was named defensive player of the year.

Suring junior Kroix Kempka was honored as a running back, as was Lena/STAA senior Max Peterson.

Miller was chosen as an offensive end, and senior Blake Behnke was recognized as an offensive lineman.

Lena/STAA cruises in first round of playoffs

Defense has been the bread and butter of the Lena/STAA football team this season.

Turns out the Titans’ offense is pretty good as well.

Lena/STAA opened the WIAA 8-player playoffs Oct. 18 with a 51-6 win over Princeton/Green Lake.

Meanwhile, Marion/Tigerton advanced to the second round with a 20-16 win over Alma Center Lincoln in Marion, and Suring saw its season end with a 40-14 road loss to Sevastopol.

Gillett runners win M&O cross country meet

Gillett’s cross country team returned home from the Marinette & Oconto Conference Meet with a pair of individual championships.

Bradyn Wendorff and Hope Soper won the boys and girls races, respectively, Oct. 16 at Big Stone Golf Course in Three Lakes.

Meanwhile, Lena/STAA placed three runners in the top five to win the girls team championship.

Falcons soar over Chargers in Wittenberg

At the same time Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers were dismantling the Milwaukee Brewers to head to the World Series, the Wittenberg-Birnamwood football team was being dismantled as well.

The Chargers closed out the regular season Oct. 17 with a 56-28 loss to Amherst.
