Red Raiders give Phantoms a scare on Halloween

Field position – especially in the first half – was not a problem for the Pulaski football team in its Division 2 playoff matchup with West De Pere.

The Red Raiders found themselves inside the Phantom 10-yard line four times in the first half but only had seven points to show for it.

Four Pulaski cross country runners wrapped up their season Nov. 1 at state.

Maggie Gerth and Emerson Fabry competed for the Red Raiders in the girls Division 1 race, while the boys race included Parker Marshall and Arden Gillen.

Gerth led Pulaski by placing 20th in 18:52.8, while Fabry crossed the finish line in 19:27.2, good for 54th place. Marshall placed 82nd in 16:59.3 in the boys race, while Gillen was 87th in 17:01.

Steve Stomberg found himself in a familiar place.

That place? The WIAA State Cross Country Championships in Wisconsin Rapids, where the longtime Shawano cross country coach brought his boys and girls squads to compete in Division 2.

Wondra gets her wish with first trip to podium

Mariah Wondra had one goal in mind while competing for the fourth and final time at the WIAA State Cross Country Championships.

“My goal is to be on the podium,” the Bonduel High School senior said. “That’s been my goal for years, and I haven’t gotten there yet.”

She got her wish Nov. 1 after placing sixth in the girls Division 3 race at the meet, held at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

It’s too bad the Bonduel and Kewaunee football teams don’t play each other more often.

Kewaunee handed the Bears a 14-7 loss during the regular season on its way to a Packerland Conference championship, but Bonduel returned the favor Oct. 31, as the Bears returned home with a 37-36 win in a WIAA Division 6 Level 2 playoff game on the Storm’s home field.

Eagles volleyball season ends with home loss to Florence

In the end, it was a case of too much Bobcats and not enough Eagles.

Suring hosted Florence in a WIAA Division 5 sectional semifinal volleyball match Oct. 30 but ended up on the short end of a 3-1 score. The loss ended one the most successful seasons in program history, while the Bobcats advanced to state for the first time two days later with a 3-1 win over Central Wisconsin Christian in a sectional final in Eagle River.

Shawano, Pulaski soccer teams lose in sectional semifinals

The Shawano Hawks boys soccer team ended their 2025 campaign after a 2-1 loss to the Lakeland Thunderbirds on Oct. 30 in the WIAA sectional semifinals.

It was a tense game with Lakeland scoring the first goal by Camerron Bernard.

Shawano tied the score in the second half when a corner kick by Joaquin Boldig was kicked in by Jorel Shaver, Later, Oren Slemmons of the Thunderbirds scored the last goal.
