Witt-Birn swimmers place sixth at state

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood girls swim team placed sixth out of 31 teams at the WIAA state meet Nov. 14 at Waukesha South High School.

Reese Dickman had the best individual finish, placing second in the 100-yard breaststroke. She was also third in the 50-yard freestyle.

Shawano athlete agrees to play softball in South Dakota

For what is believed to be the only second time in the history Shawano Community High School, a student has committed to play softball for a Division 2 college.

Kadence Meyers, daughter of Jeremy and Nicki Meyers, will compete for a starting pitcher role at the University of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in the 2026-27 school year.

She signed her commitment letter in a ceremony Nov. 12 in the school library.

Highway 22 businesses cater to bow, gun hunters

Preliminary numbers from the state Department of Natural Resources aren’t available yet for the ongoing archery deer season, but three local businesses are shedding a little light on how hunters are faring so far in the woods and fields.

The Wisconsin 2025 gun deer season opens Nov. 22 and runs through Nov. 30.

Similar to last year, this year’s gun deer season runs later in the month. Fewer deer may be on the move relative to years with earlier openers. Other factors such as colder temperatures and snow cover could create better deer hunting conditions
