Banks warn of pig butchering, charity scams

As the holiday season approaches, AbbyBank and other financial institutions are coming together to warn their communities of two fast-growing fraud schemes — pig butchering scams and charity scams.

NTC to provide help with estate planning

Northcentral Technical College will partner with Judicare Legal Aid to host a free estate planning workshop.

The workshop will be held from 1-5 p.m. Nov. 19 in Room E101 at NTC’s Wausau campus. The event is free.

Legion raffling off meat Nov. 15

The next American Legion Gunless Poultry Shoot will take place at 1 p.m. Nov. 15 at School House Bar, 14007 State Highway 32-64, Mountain.

The legion will raffle off packages of meat, poultry, sausages, bacon, beverages and items donated by local businesses. There will also be 50/50 and basket raffles.

The good and the bad of the deer rut

The best time of the year for bow and crossbow hunters is upon us, but if you drive through deer country or run an insurance agency during the rut, you may not be smiling.

The rut is simply the whitetail deer’s mating season. While there are actually a couple times when bucks chase does in heat, the primary rut in our area starts around Nov. 1 and continues for a week or two. There is a secondary rut in December.

Now that it’s November, it feels like fall is finally here. The days and nights are colder, the leaves on the trees are thinning out, the garden produce is almost done, and Thanksgiving is right around the corner.
