Uniform muskie season will take effect this year

Will anglers head to the northern half of Wisconsin – including Shawano and Oconto counties – to fish for muskies almost a month before the previous season opener?

That remains to be seen, but anglers will be able to target muskies in the Northern Zone on May 2 instead of waiting until the last Saturday of May. The season will end Dec. 31.

Input sought at DNR spring hearings

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Wisconsin Conservation Congress will be holding their spring hearings from 6-9 p.m. April 13.

Shawano boys relay team wins at UW-Oshkosh

UW-Oshkosh

Shawano’s 4x200-meter relay team of Sosaeh Tepiew, Bryce Lammers, Maverick Theis and Heriberto Rubio won with a time of 1:35.77 at the UW-Oshkosh boys track and field meet for teams in Divisions 2 and 3.

Joseph Doperalski finished in fourth place in the shot put.

Elijah Senft placed fifth in the 60-meter dash.

Witt-Birn baseball team shuts out Wautoma

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 9, Wautoma 0

Five hits by the Chargers and five errors by the Hornets contributed to a 9-0 shutout win for Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s baseball team.

Milo Salvesen had a double for the Chargers.

Connor Meverden was one of three pitchers for the Chargers, and he earned the win with four strikeouts and two walk in three innings.

Pulaski baseball team wins in Florida

Pulaski 12, Bishop Timon-St. Jude 1

Eddie Van Roy hit a home run and Braun Wotruba hit a triple as Pulaski cruised to a 12-1 win over Bishop Timon-St. Jude of Buffalo, New York, in a game in Florida.

Wotruba hit 3-for-5, and Eli Heuser hit 2-for-4.

Chargers softball team defeats Stratford

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 4, Stratford 1

Chloe Hanson hit 2-for-3 with a pair of triples and two RBIs as Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s softball team defeated Stratford 4-1.

Jayda Moenke hit 1-for-3 with a triple.

Zoey Thorson and Katelyn Nousen each collected an RBI.

Chargers boys track team places third at Merrill

Bluejay Indoor Track Invitational

Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s boys scored 67 points and placed third among five teams, while the girls tallied 23 points and finished in fifth place.

For the boys, Aydrean McGeshick won the 200-meter dash in 25.4 seconds. Logan Gibson placed third.
