Council approves $30K in bids for sidewalks

The city of Shawano has about 41 miles of sidewalk, and there’s only so much that can be fixed in a single year. This year, however, the city will be able to make improvements in more areas than usual.

Giving bowls some color

Lorena Bricco, of Clintonville, gets some help painting a bowl from Nova Bricco, 3, during a workshop April 7 at Shawano Community High School. The Briccos and others in the community worked to paint a variety of ceramic bowls for Shawano Area Matthew 25 to sell for its Empty Bowls fundraiser. The event, held in fall, helps to fund operations at SAM’s House, an emergency homeless shelter in Shawano.

 

More work taking place on state Highway 29

A $10.7 million contract has been set to improve state Highway 29, between County Road M and South Highline Road, in the towns of Richmond, Belle Plaine, Waukechon and Hartland, as well as the city of Shawano.

Work is scheduled to begin April 13.

Pulaski teacher named Kohl Teacher Fellow

Kaitlin Skarban, of Sobieski, a teacher at Pulaski High School, was among recipients of the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation 2026 Teacher Fellowship award.

Skarban was recognized for her exceptional leadership, dedication to students and commitment to educational excellence.

Gresham seeks to fill two school board vacancies

The Gresham School Board is seeking applications from qualified individuals to fill two vacant seats on the board.

Eligible candidates must be residents of the district and meet all legal requirements for holding public office in Wisconsin. The appointed individuals will serve until the next regularly scheduled election (April 2027), at which time the position will be filled by voters.

HSHS names chief nursing officer for Wisconsin market

Hospital Sisters Health System has announced that Jennifer Morton has been named chief nursing officer for the HSHS Wisconsin market. She will begin her role May 4.

In honor of National Volunteer Week, April 19-25, HSHS St. Vincent Hospital and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center in Green Bay, HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan and HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls recognize the hard work, dedication and compassion of their volunteers.
