Yami Sweeney said that if she knew how much she loved being a nail technician, she would have started a long time ago.
She also knows people’s past shapes their future, and previous decisions lead one to their current place in life.
Today, she is the owner of Painted Dock Nail Salon in Cecil, a business that held its grand opening Oct. 6.
“I love the people, and I love the work I do,” Sweeney said. “My job is a blissful job. There is nothing I don’t like about it.”
For now, she works on her own with a few helpers who are in school for training.
“I hope to be fully staffed by summer,” Sweeney said. “I want to take the time to find the right people to serve the community.”
Services include anything to do with nails — including manicures, pedicures, nail enhancements such as gel nails, acrylic nails, dips and waxing.
For many years, Sweeney was a stay-at-home mom, then worked for a school district and a sanitation company in New London.
“When the kids went back to school, I decided I wanted to do something different, so I went to beauty school to learn to cut hair,” she said.
A friend of hers from Florida convinced her to start working with nails, and she never looked back.
That was about 10 years ago. Since then, she’s worked at Nails and Spa in New London and at TT Nails in Howard.
The family eventually decided to buy a home on Shawano Lake. They moved to the area, and she chose to open the business in Cecil.
Business hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Saturday hours are by appointment only.
Painted Dock Nail Salon is located at 200 Golf View Road, Suite 103, Cecil, and the phone number is 715-725-0210.
